Instead of trading Noc, Thabo, and Noah or Thomas for Gasol why not just trade....

Deng/Duhon/Smith for Gasol.

This gives the Grizz the guy they want and cap relief with Duhon expiring this year and Joe Smith next year. They may be able to get a 1st round pick for Smith too from a team wanting him for their playoff run.

I like our backcourt with Thabo emerging next to Gordon and Hinrich. Noc could play SF exclusively, and Tyrus could back up Gasol at PF and Noah could backup Wallace and share time with Gasol at C too.

Even if Deng wouldn't be traded for Gasol he needs to be traded for somebody that is an impact player because he has the highest value and is redundant with the emergence of Thabo and Noc. I also believe Noc slashes better and shoots the three better.

Who do you see backing up the 3? Khryapa? With Thabo's sudden re-emergence, I'm kind of anxious to see him get some time as well now.

While most of your complaints I find ridiculous, I would consider that trade if the Grizzlies would.

I don't see how this helps the Grizzlies when they have Miller and Gay and no impact bigmen aside from Gasol, but from the Bulls perspective it looks like something to consider.

It all depends on how much he wants to resign, because he may not be the best 3 out there, but he doesn't really have a weakness.
Granted, he 3 point shot isn't there, but at the moment we don't need it from him, I'm sure he could be a proficient 3pt shooter, he has the work ethics.

I truly believe that Gasol for Deng,Duhon & Smith would be just fine by me...
NOC is by far a more consistent resiliant player than Deng...
Gasol is the final piece to this puzzle!!!!

While the above trade may work for me, I think that a lot of people would be disappointed with Gasol.

Though your statements about Deng are absurd and conclusory, and despite the fact that I'm on record as objecting to trading Deng for Gasol and would oppose even the trade you suggest, I'd have to admit its the only Deng-included Gasol package that didn't make me want to wretch.

Its basically Deng and nothing for Gasol (not that Joe is nothing, but if you have Gasol then he really wouldn't have much of a role). I still wouldn't do it, but I wouldn't immediately start a "fire pax" club if it happened.

While I am greatly disappointed with Deng, this is still just a lateral trade. Gasol isn't that great. I was never for the holding Deng out in trades, because I think this team is, always was, and probably always will be Gordon's team. He is the man, the numero uno.

Now Deng in a Stoudemire trade, then we can talk. Gasol only makes sense if your putting him together with both Gordon and Deng.

I'd give it a month, and then I'd probably start the club.

Consider this an advanced precautionary application in case such a deal happens, that is as long as we get a club membership card?



I have similar thoughts, I just wouldn't feel comfortable at all trading a 22 year old Deng for Gasol. Not because I don't value Gasol, because I do, but instead because I'm not sure that a Dengless team with Gasol would get us to the level we would want to be considering we had just given up Deng.

I value Gasol, just not as much as others.

You would have to include other people in that deal to get Stoudamire. Phoenix isn't going to just take Deng.

Look at what we're left with:

PG-Kirk Hinrich/JamesOn Curry
SG-Thabo Sefolosha/Ben Gordon
SF-Andres Nocioni/Thabo Sefolosha
PF-Amare Stoudemire/Joe Smith
C- Ben Wallace/Aaron Gray

Our frontcourt rotation would still be robust. We'd need to bring in a backup point guard, but thats it.

My issues with Deng reside in the fact that he doesn't possess the athletic ability to really slash and get around his defender.

As a result.....

He doesnt' shoot many FT's

He is INEFFECTIVE when the ball doesn't swing along with defense to open up gaps for him

He doesn't create for others

His lack of 3 ball really hurts us to because....

Spacing suffers

He's content chucking up jumpers just inside the 3 point line. He has a great shot but that is not what we need.

His post game is BRUTAL.

Which isn't a big deal if we had a player that did have a post game or it wouldn't be a big deal if they wouldn't go to him 4-5 times a game in the post with no results.

My main issue is DENG DOESN'T MAKE ANYONE BETTER.

Gasol makes everyone a lot better. I don't care if Deng's production goes up and he averages 22ppg and 10rpg for MEM playing 40mpg. He still won't draw a double team or have a post game.
