We're not that far from a championship...

I know that sounds crazy, but I think we are only one piece away RIGHT NOW from being a TRUE contender. Obviously we're lacking one of the following:

Playmaker
Post presence
Elite wing player
Go-to guy

aka Superstar

This is obvious to anyone who watches the Bulls, and anyone who comes to the board regularly.

It just seems to me that the general consensus of the board is we have to trade for one of these. That is definitely an option, but I don't like it as the first option. I just think we would have to give too many pieces in a trade. If we could just plug a guy like Gasol or someone into our lineup without losing anything we'd be pretty darn good. That's not possible though, or is it?

Now, I've never ever been a fan of tanking. I've always been on board to develop a winning culture and attitude BUT I've been doing a lot of thinking. We're already a good team with a bad record. Even if we make the playoffs, i don't see us winning much this year. Our team makeup isn't THAT bad. Pax hasn't done that bad of a job. We're just missing that last piece. This might be the best draft since 2003. We're obviously not winning anything this year. Getting a superstar isn't easy. But this year's draft can be our easy way of getting one. Plugging in a guy like Rose into our core without losing anything would take care of a lot of problems. I'm not saying tank, I'm just saying.... I'm not in favor of trading. Getting a superstar in the draft is 1)easiest route 2)gives us a younger core/longer window 3)best chance at dynasty

Neither are my Kings. We need the same thing, any ideas where this superstar comes from? Maybe we can both get one

I suggest the superstar tree. Or perhaps the superstar ATM machine at Jewel. Or maybe the Bulls could draft someone like LaMarcus Aldridge. Or even Brandon Roy.

Those are many needs actually. Hopefully you can find a post presence and then find an elite wing player, go-to guy, and play maker all in one. But you may not have to look far from Gordon and Deng. Either one of them can be a future All-Star type player, which would fill many needs of the type of player(s) we need.

You guys just need to stay healthy.

We'll we passed them up. Which is why I think we need to take advantage of our down year and a good draft class. As sad and pathetic as that is.

I think we just need 1 of those, not all. But yeah if we we're to get a guy like Rose or Beasley then they would definitely bring a few of those.

Strange but doesn't Beasley by himself satisfy all of those??????

Tanking is a task that's easier said than done. You can't just go to you players (particularly those on contract seasons) and tell them - "stop trying! we're tanking now".

There's no way a team like the Bulls can tank to get a top 5 pick. Heck, even an awful team like the Knicks in having trouble staying in the bottom 5.

How far are we from a championship? It depends:

Chicago to Detroit 283 miles
Chicago to Dallas 969 miles
Chicago to Boston 985 miles
Chicago to San Antonio 1243 miles
Chicago to Phoenix 1803 miles
