Brand Unlikely To Opt Out?

This summer, Elton Brand can elect to opt out of his contract to become a free agent, but owner Donald Sterling does not anticipate that happening.

"One, based on my conversation with Elton, he's not going to opt out," Sterling told the Los Angeles Times. "And two, whatever he asks for, I think he deserves. He is our franchise player, we need him. You saw a short time ago we were pretty close to being a special team, and now without him you see how difficult it is."

Pretty new story.

Is there any chance we can free up some space and grab him?

I remember in a long Brand Trade thread I said he wouldn't opt out and if he did, the Clipps would resign him. The majority of this board felt the Clippers would not resign him or he would choose to go elsewhere.

Don't know why people thought that, but that doesn't seem likely.

It doesn't make sense for him to opt out. He needs to prove that he's back to 100% before he gets offered the mega deal that he'd want.

There is one less team with cap room this off-season.
