One Bright spot in the Boylan Era?

Last 14 games - ever since he started coming off the bench, this is what his averages are:

Ben Gordon
34mpg 23.4ppg 48%fg 47%3pt 93%ft 3.1rpg 2.8apg

Now, how many players can really do that in 34mpg???

This is what I actually expected from Gordon since the start of the season. - well actually not completely like this but...

37mpg 22ppg 45%fg 42%3pt 90%+ft 3rpg 3+apg

I should point out that he was at 17+ppg with 35% shooting but now here are his overall averages:

35mpg 19.6ppg 42%fg 39%3pt 92%ft 3.5rpg 2.8apg 2.3topg 2.5fpg

He will definitely be around 21ppg or so when all said and done.

He is also our leader in free throw shooting and he goes to the line the most of any BULLS player.

His Turnovers are down (how many times do you see him falling now and dribble off his foot??? - he has definitely improved and nobody's giving him credit for).

HIs fouls are also down and he is hardly in foul trouble unlike previous years.

Also, his defense has really improved as well - maybe it's just me but I really think he is atleast an average defender - if not a little better.

Overall he is getting closer to 20ppg and he has upped his fg% + 3pt% + ft% so I am really happy with Gordon.

Also, I should point out that Gordon would have done this exact same even if he was starting - so don't get confused by it's all because he is coming off the bench.

This year has been a disaster but Gordon hasn't been the problem .

I wouldn't say he's the solution . But he certainly hasn't been the problem .

Those are Ray Allen type numbers right there. When he's used properly (he is off the bench for us) then he's a stud scorer.

It's definately one of the bright spots, I previously mentioned I think that the improvement in performance was more down to the Skiles departure. I still think that way.

Same kind of case for Thabo.

I thought I would state it again.

Yes.

Let us not forget Rebirth of Swiss.

Benching Ben Gordon made him better? Surely not that. That hasn't been the case for at least one season.

Be sure to all bitch about it next year when it happens again.

I'm not all that impressed. Gordon has always been a streaky player and it was only a matter of time until the law of averages kicked in and he had a hot streak to even out his awful play from earlier in the season.

I'd say the only bright spot of the Jim Boylan era is that I now have a raging Thaboner.

It won't because he's outta here.

Those definitely aren't "one trick pony" stats. Give the man his long-term contract.

I dont know the stats but i remember a graphic during one of the first games he game off the bench this year that showed his stats are slightly better as a starter than off the bench for his career.

Actually, they are the perfect example of one-trick stats if the trick is shooting. His rebounding numbers don't suck, but they aren't strong by any stretch even for a shooting guard. And his assist/TO numbers are poor, and he still has a glaring weakness of turning it over on critical possessions.

And I disagree with whoever said his defense improved again this year. Gordon improved each of his first three seasons defensively. Last year I actually thought he took a big step forward. This season? No. If anything, he's regressed a hair on that end of the court.

I agree about giving him a good contract though - at basically the terms he rejected plus perhaps a little bit more if necessary to seal the deal. He's redeemed himself in my book.

He has improved, and his play at the start of the season was pretty bad, but the rest of the team was worse, Deng and Noce had little hot streaks, but as bad as everyone was playing, Gordon was still playing better than atleast 95% of the team, he doesn't get the credit, cause unless the credit is backed up with stats like it was here, the BG haters quickly dismiss it.

edit: Duck, I think his defense has improved as well, just not as much as it did last year, maybe making it less noticeable.

And there are two distinct bright spots in the Boylan era, not one. The use of Gordon and the emergence of Thabo.

I suppose Joe Smith has played well. But I don't see anything that leads me to believe Boylan had anything to do with that.

Yea but it's not like Gordon is 6'6 or anything. 3.1 RPG for him is fine to me. The turnovers are his fault, and sometimes the teams fault as well (no help from the double team, using Wallace as a screen).

Defensively I do think he's gotten better from where he's started. Sometimes gets lazy, but he's solid overall.

I'd give him around 5/50 or 5/53 to 55 at most. He's made it pretty damn clear that he's a big part of this team and deserves good money, and near or equal to the same amount as the more cherished Luol Deng.

i expect BG7 to get a nice offer and be playing elsewhere next season as well. @ 12mil + guarantee he'll be a starter.

i'm trying to enjoy him playing his last games as a Bull.

if only he was 2" taller, had bigger hands and Tyrus' leaping ability to finish these dunks....
i'll miss him next season.

Considering an asshat like Eddy Curry is nearly a foot taller than Ben Gordon, plays beneath the basket and only manages a little over 2 more rebounds per game, I'm not about to criticize Ben for his rpg numbers.

You think he's going to get an offer on the UFA market so fat that the Bulls won't match?

Bold prediction.

That Deng envy.
