No report yet on the cause of the 28-year-old actor's death

Yikes!

EDIT:

Here's brief AP story on this...

NEW YORK (AP) - January 22, 2008 -- Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan residence in a possible drug-related death, police said. He was 28.
NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment believed to be his home. The housekeeper who went to let Ledger know the masseuse was there found him dead at 3:26 p.m.

CNN reports that he was "surrounded" with pills. Isn't oxy a very risky opiate? No word on what it is.

I'm a fan of Heath. I'm sad. I actually liked him. Yes, even in 10 Things I Hate About You.

I wonder if Batman was finished.

Sad Day.

i only saw him in 10 things i Hate about u and monsters ball where he's in it for like 5 minutes. That being said, I don't think I've ever been more excited to see a performance from an actor I don't follow at all than him as the joker.

Yeah, it seems like his Joker role is destined to go down as a legendary performance. Their was already a ton of hype around it, now it's going to be ridiculous as it's Ledger in his final role.

Now there are reports that the pills were sleeping pills

Is it done being taped?

I am extremely excited for the movie and much has to do with Ledger's ability to play the Joker. The Trailer and 6min clip online left me very impressed by Heath's acting. Should be the best Batman film to date.

my girlfriend just called me about it. i'm absolutely shocked. young guy, only 28. just sad. i'd like think it was due to natural causes (like a ruptured appendix) than the typical drug overdose.

I'm not sure if it's done. If I had to guess, I'd assume that they're done filming and that it's being editied, but it's just a guess.

IMDB has the film status listed as "post-production" which would suggest that they finished filming.

I'm sure it's in post-production.

The Joker was to be in the one following Dark Knight as well
