So What's the lastest on Tyrus Thomas?

This guy has all the tools to become a great forward.. However, I think mentally he's not ready and his basketball IQ is below average. What's going on with him in Chicago? Are they finally going to use him more next season? So far, he has averaged less than 20mins playing time. I wonder what will happen if he gets major minutes or he's already being tagged by bust label.

supposedly he has grown an inch and is now taller than deng according to david thorpe. He has been working on his game this offseason. Paxson the GM specifically mentioned that he wanted to take rose to make tyrus more productive.

Last I heard of him was the Bulls traded LaMarcus Aldridge for him for some ungodly reason.

Bulls got rid of the coaches that jerked him around.
Hired Vinny Del Negro who's high on him from his days as a Phoenix scout, as well as Thabo and Noah, which means he will have a big role this year.
He's also grown some.

Great athlete, that's about it. I don't think he'll ever amount to being more than a bench player, maybe he can develop to be a useful defensive roleplayer.

his per already suggests he can be a solid starter its around 15. Which is pretty good for a guy whose skills are all on the defensive end supposedly

Actually, I think it is more accurate to state that it was Thomas who jerked the coaches around. For example, not running the floor, missing practice, missing assignments. But, let's not let the facts get in the way.

I have all the tools needed to bang Jessica Alba, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen.

Big difference. In the former case, having the tools combined with the desire is sufficient to ensure that goal is met. In the later case it's not, as about 3 billion men can attest to.

Don't sell yourself short...
Anyway, Tyrus will likely get more consistent minutes this year whether he deserves them or not. Hopefully he will. My guess is either way he will be come a much more consistent player because of it.
Staying out of foul trouble while still being a strong defensive presence is going to be his biggest challenge.. I hope he can pull it off for the Bulls sake. I think were going to need him to step it up this year.

Tyrus started the first 5 games of the season and gave the Bulls:
29.8 min
10.4 pts
8.2 reb
2.0 blk
1.8 ast
1.2 stl
In the Bulls' 5th game vs the Pistons- their first win of the season- Tyrus played 36 minutes and put up 19/14/2/2, and it seemed as if he was on his way to showing us all something.
Then in the Bulls' 6th game, he got into early foul trouble and only got 12 minutes (despite only finishing with 3 fouls).
He then didn't start game 7, and the year of his minutes getting wildly jerked around was on it's way.
He started all 9 games in April and gave the Bulls:
28.1 min
.523 FG
12.7 pts
6.6 reb
1.8 ast
1.6 blk
Some posters here feel is already a bona-fide bust, but just as many of us understand that he was drafted as a big-time project and we are more than willing to give him some time, assuming the Bulls actually bother developing him this season.

There you go again bringing facts into the argument.

Yeah, I have a real bad habit of doing that.
I'm sorry, I'll work on not doing it so much in the future.

You can't just look at his averages. Tyrus had two great games, and four crappy ones as a starter. That's not really desirable or acceptable. You have to have at least a little bit of consistency as an NBA player, and thus far Tyrus has shown none. Blaming it all on the coaches doesn't fly either. Tyrus's effort and decision making were a lot more up and down than his minutes.

Hmmm, a guy who played one year of college ball, and as a rookie was the youngest player in the entire NBA, and was drafted as a project, was inconsistent in his 2nd season?
Damn, I never would have imagined that would happen...And 2 great games and 4 crappy ones? HUH???
I never knew that 6 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals in 20 minutes was a crappy game.
At least now I see why you think that Tyrus is already a bust, you must have some unbelievably high expectations for him if that game was a "crappy" one.
The real question is "why did Tyrus only get 20 minutes in a game where he is stuffing the entire stat sheet?" He only finished with 3 PF, so that wasn't it. He only had 2 TO, so that wasn't it.

It was the very beginning of his second year... after a first year in which he recieved just over 13 minutes of playing time. Not to mention, as Bullsville said, he was drafted as a project. Young players, especially projects, are expected to be inconsistent.
He hasn't gotten an extended chance to show consistency, either.
