Can Drew Gooden be a piece moving forward?

Given our front court sucks and Gooden is the best we have, should Gooden be signed to a long term contract? He says he wants to stay a Bull... do you believe him?

The only piece he can manage to be is a piece of crap.

I dont really like the options.. I think he is a peice to deal or let walk to spend that money elsewhere.. I do think he could be a backup 4 on a really good team

I'll keep him only if he can nag us something in 2010. And I don't mean he becomes a expiring in 2010 and we don't sign a soul.

Not much to choose from on that list if you think 2010 is BS.

I like Gooden but he's a PF and I'd rather go the cheaper, higher potential route with Tyrus.

What else would you choose?
Either you want to keep him around cause he can bring something to the bulls long term
or
You don't want him to be a part of this team moving forward...
This isn't about the million ways to utilize him to improve the team, its about Gooden and his long term relationship with the bulls.

Just leave the 2010 reference out. Most of the people on this board are obsessed enough with the treasures lying under the end of that rainbow already without being reminded. The general consensus on this board is that everyone not on a rookie contract should be summarily dumped so the Leprechauns in the front office can deliver a pot of gold in 2010. No need to urge them on.
Gooden's a good bench player. You need at least 4 good big men to win in the NBA, and he could be one of them (at a reasonable price of course). Somebody should try to teach him to play defense sometime. You never know, he might just improve some in that area.

If Drew could possibly be retained for the MLE then it might not be a bad idea. He's a horrid defender but he can score, so he'd be a solid big man to bring off the bench for offense. Problem is, we don't really have anyone better to start ahead of him.

Right now though, we'd be best off clearing as much money off the payroll as possible for 2010.

I think I've decided I don't even want him at the MLE. He's not worth it. If someone could tell me what he can do that Zaza Pachulia couldn't at a much lower price, I'd like to hear it. I think he's pretty much garbage apart from his rebounding, and that's not a saving grace.

Score. You know, something around 15 ppg.

I 100% agree with your post. And in general that is our problem as a team. Outside of Rose and maybe Deng, all the guys starting for us are all back-ups on a really good team.
That is why guys like Noah and BG can start...

Pachulia's best season netted him 12.2 points. Drew Gooden's got him 14.4. And it took Gooden 2 or so more minutes to do it. And Pachulia did it on more efficient shooting.

He won't make our future, and if we sign him to a deal it could break our future (moves). No Gooden for me. If we were a contending team, I'd take him on an MLE deal. If we had the level of defense during the Skiles era, I might opt for Gooden. But we don't.

He's a rotation player in the NBA but I don't think that's a compelling reason to keep him. I don't think he adds too much so I'd just assume go another direction if we want to use the MLE on a big man.

Gooden is the best we have
I don’t agree that he is. Tyrus has been better than him since November.
