White Sox Acquire Kevin Youkilis

The Boston Red Sox have traded infielder Kevin Youkilis to the Chicago White Sox for utilityman Brent Lillibridge and right-hander Zach Stewart.

The AL Central-leading White Sox, who also receive cash in the deal, have been looking for a third baseman with Brent Morel plagued by back problems.

ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney is reporting the Red Sox will pick up all but $2 million of what is owed to Youkilis. The Red Sox will pay the White Sox $5.5 million, according to ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine.

"There is no way we are not a better team with Kevin Youkilis," White Sox captain Paul Konerko said. "He is just too good of a player and has been through all the wars and is still relatively a young guy. We just have to keep him on the field. If that is the case, it could be one of the bigger steals of the season."

The 25-year-old Stewart is 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA in 18 games with the White Sox this season. Lillibridge, 28, is hitting .175 with two RBIs and seven stolen bases in 48 games.

Morel was a dissapointment. Even when he was playing he couldn't live up to his preseason prediction as a sleeper hit. Youkilis is definitely an improvement and will help the Sox in their playoff push. Plus I hate the Red Sox and they miss Youkilis a lot, so that's another positive. He had a solid day today with a double and two RBI.

Youk is definitely paying some early dividends!

He is a million times better as a #2 hitter than Beckham or Morel was. Plus his defense locks down 3rd and I don't almost crap my pants every time a ball hit that way like when O-Dog was over there. No knock at O because he is NOT a 3rd baseman.

I live in Cali now but was born and raised on the South Side my man! Grew up on 53rd and Drexel in...Hyde Park. Great place to grow up but it is obviously now infested with socialists! :lol:

Very good. I imagine you made your escape ASAP from the influence of the University liberal elite academia. I grew up by Midway airport, and now live in Phoenix (Gilbert). Pretty decent back then but its getting tougher around 59th and Pulaski.

Youk is the man so far. This has to be the best Kenny trade ever.

Youk is doing big things without a doubt!

The whole city of Chicago is turning into DC in the 80s. I love that town but, weather aside, I really don't think I could live there again. Great place to visit but no longer to live in. Actually, I take that back. If I could get a spot in Trump's building or Lake Point Tower it might be all good! :-)

Youklis just hit another homer, his 9th as a White Sox in 34 games. In his time with the Sox, his OBP is something like .380 and his OPS is over .870.
