Rose apologizes to Bench and Morgan

Pete Rose has started to make amends to those who were closest to him when he gambled on baseball: his former teammates. The Major League's all-time hits leader told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he's reached out to Johnny Bench and Joe Morgan, both Hall of Famers he shared a clubhouse with during the days of the Big Red Machine, the Reds dynasty of the 1970s. "I expressed how sorry I was to those guys, if I caused any embarrassment over the years," Rose said. "Especially Johnny. He was inducted in '89, the year of the investigation. Him and I are on the same page. I can call him a good friend. I'm happy to be able to do that."

After his return on Sept. 11, Rose took a roasting from friends, former teammates and players, at a nearby casino. He apologized that night, too, even breaking down at one point. Hall of Famer Tony Perez was at the casino, and told The Associated Press that he felt Rose's contrition was sincere. "He's a different guy now," Perez said. "He's changed. I believe it." "That was the first time I had a microphone in my hand, and I had guys I wanted to apologize to in the room," Rose said. "It was hard, but I did it because that's what I wanted to do. I just felt it was the right time for me to do what I did."

This was good little article. It's good to hear that Charlie Hustle is finally coming around and attempting to do the right thing.

It is kinda sorta ironic that he apologized to them in a casino.
