Nate Robertson

Post#1 » by Liqourish » Fri Apr 3, 2009 3:45 pm

Nate told the press that his "time with in Detroit might be coming to an end" because he didn't get a starting spot. He failed to mention that he had a starting role handed to him in spring training (at Zach Miners expense) and lost it because of how poorly he pitched.

If Nate is unhappy with being in the bullpen despite him playing poorly (inconsistent) since 2006, I say the Tigers should look to move him immediately and bring up Rapada.

I don't care what his salary is or how good he once looked, if he's unhappy being here and doesn't care about improving his game but getting the starting nod, let him go.

He sucks, and his contract is obscene for what he is actually worth. Move him for sure

He's definitely been a disappointment. I figured he'd be a legit 3rd or 4th starter for years to come, but it just hasn't worked out that way.

He's been struggling for a while now, he's making a ton of money for what he's worth, and if he's now going to become a clubhouse distraction its definitely time to say goodbye.

Personally, though we didn't add much in the way of effective personnel this offseason, we've definitely purged a couple of parts that simply didn't work (Sheff, Edgar). Maybe Nate will be next.

Well, Everett at SS is better defensively than Edgar. Moving Inge back to 3rd helps too.

The thing I like most is that Dombrowski added more youth to the team.

Josh Anderson from Atlanta was a great low key move. Will be interesting to see him get regular burn. Depending on how he plays right or left field, he could replace Maggz or Guillen eventually.

Getting Edwin Jackson was solid, even though we lost Matt Joyce. A 25 yr old pitcher with his skillset and playoff experience is incredible to get. Let's hope he can succeed in his new role.

Finding out that Porcello and Perry could be major contributers this year helps. I don't expect a Verlander/Zumaya rookie season out of either of them. But if they can contribute and look poise under the pressure, I think it will help them (and the team) develop long term.

Getting Larish up with the team for the full year helps. Having another strong lefty at bat will help the team. Larish needs to work on putting more balls in play though. He seemed rather hit or miss last season.

And moving Sheff to free up the DH spot to rotate players and become more versatile will help alot.

Add all that to a healthy Verlander, another year of Galarraga and Cabrera/Magglio/Granderson being the players they are. This team has the firepower to make a splash this season. ALOT will depend on the pitching though.
