...and it's not even close.

Only 2 teams lost money in 2009. The Diamondbacks were one, losing $600,000. The Tigers were the other, losing $29,000,000. Sure, they had a lot of terrible contracts, but damn, that was a bad year.

1. Marlins: $46.1M

2. Red Sox: $40.0M

3. Nationals: $33.5M

4. Dodgers: $33.1M

28. Braves: $1.5M

29. Diamondbacks: -$0.6M

30. Tigers: -$29.5M

Looking at that loss of $29.5M, the first thing that comes to my mind is that is a lot of pizza. The Tigers spent $115M on their payroll and did not make the postseason after losing to the Twins in that one-game playoff.

The contracts of Maggz/Guillen/Bondo/Robertson/Willis really took their toll, especially considering what an awful year they all had.

I love Maggz/Guillen and really wanted Willis to work out.... but I can't wait to see what the Tigers can do once their contracts are off the books.

This report hardly puts into light how bad of a job we have done and how much of a disgrace we have been to professional sports in general by operating in such an intolerable way of mass incompetence. it's sickening and shameful from both a baseball and business perspective.
