I havent cried like this since my grand father passed away. Its not just the loss of a close friend but the end of an era and the closeing of a chaptor in all of our lives. I recall riding my bike and being able to listen to Ernie all day because every house had the Tigers on and you could hear him from the street. I would go with my dad and we listened to Ernie in the car and then we would stop and go into the hardware store and Ernie is being played in the store. All day I heard uncle Ernie Harwell tell me about life as well as baseball.
The smell of grass, the wind blowing through the trees, the splashing of water at the lake and Ernie Harwell. Thats the sounds of Michigan.
