DETROIT -- First baseman Miguel Cabrera shouldn’t be too shocked to learn the Detroit Tigers had signed first baseman Prince Fielder.

It had apparently been discussed for nearly a week. Cabrera confirmed that Tuesday's blockbuster acquisition will result in him shifting from first base to third in 2012 -- a position he last played in 2008.

“That’s my natural position,” Cabrera told Venezuelan newspaper Lider en Deporte.

It's good to hear that Cabby is slimming down and getting prepped, especially with a personal S&C coach. And again, the fact that he has all year to kind of platoon at third and take some time at first and DH will make a world of difference.

Good to see Cabrera's dedication to doing what the team needs him to do.

Still nervous about him at third base though.

I'm not saying it's going to work, but he looks like he's committed....He looks slimmer to me.

Read a article in detroit free.

Basically Leyland played MC smart

Ask if he's willing to go over to third, he said yes. Let him play that position and if he does well, we have a third baseman and scary 3-4 lineup. If he sucks, he'll get pulled and he can't argue against stats. This way Cabrera thinks he had a choice and chance at third he just coughed it up and jim had no other choice but to pull him. Player management. Go JIM!.

Still a bit nervous about this. I've seen some stats that show that Fielder is one of the poorer fielders at first base in the league, and even in the best case scenario Cabrera is probably a below average third baseman.

I'm not saying the net result won't be positive, but I'd still like to see Fielder and Cabrera get a large number of games at DH (who's our DH, anyway?).

Rick "Ground Ball" Porcello might be the only one not thrilled by this move....
