Spring Training!!!

BASEBALL IS BACK ON TV.

Yesterday the Tigers took on the Astros, it was good to see some new faces and still get the W. Here is what I noticed from the game, although I was more watching the pitchers than anything else.

Porcello looked really sharp, although an awful Astros lineup helped
Putkonen wasn't too great, gave up a few runs, he may be headed back to Toledo....
Beniot was throwing heat like it was midseason, he is ready to rock
Villarreal had some control issues, but as usual, his stuff was electric, really like what he brings to the table.

Avila had a nice 2 run single in the first, hopefully he can get off to a hot start and keep it going....

Only question this spring is who will be our closer.

Hope Rondon takes it, but I'd be fine with Villareal as well

I'm equally interested in who will be the number 5 starter.

I hope Rick gets it personally.

Boesch released and picked up by the NY Yankees. He had two hits today hope he does well but I still hate the Yankees.

Porcello looks great, fastball is at 95 mph and looks like a stud that we should not trade. Rondo is looking much better and Jackson and Hunter are starting to hit. I expect Fielder to have a great year.

The more I think about Porcello, the more I get conflicted about him:

He is young still, so we shouldn't look to move him IMO
He is a groundball pitcher, and we do NOT have the infield for that
He is still young
He dropped the slider I believe which should lead to a more solid curve since he'll have time to perfect it

I think Albequerque should get a shot, he has the mind set and the stuff to get it done.

problem with Albequerque is that he has a nasty slider and throws a lot of them, Slider is a pitchers worst enemy in terms of endurance

Berry and Rondon sent down, interesting.

Wonder who is in the lead for closer now, I haven't really been keeping up on it like I should have

Well, since we can't even throw together a conversation about being in the AL F***in' CS right now, let's look ahead to spring training 2014. What no name players will be getting invites? My heart's aflutter.
