http://tracking.si.com/2013/11/25/brian ... act-close/Okay, lets recap.
Gone (so far):
Infante*
Peralta
Benoit*
Fielder
*Means likely gone because we've already either acquired or are linked to replacement players.
In (so far):
Kinsler
Wilson (probably)
How reliable do we think Wilson is as our closer at this stage?
We need still:
A 3B (if Castellanos isn't our guy there)
Possibly another outfielder, preferably one who can bat 4th or 5th
Bullpen help
Given what the market for 3rd baseman looks like I'd be surprised if Castellanos isn't our guy, but we can probably expect at least one other notable acquisition in the field and I'm hoping we strengthen our bullpen as well.

I could see Porcello being traded to fill some of the needs, but I still think its possible Scherzer gets dealt. It sounds like Dombrowski would like to get Smyly in the rotation, so one of them might be gone.

Dealing Max would be a bold move and they'd only do it if they're getting a handsome return.
I think its far more likely they give Max another year to show what he's worth and to show that last year wasn't a fluke. I frankly think his luck this season has been vastly overstated, as his numbers were elite even if you completely ignore the win total.
Porcello's out though, barring an unexpected Max deal.

You hafta move someone from the starting rotation, if only to get Smyly in there (a worthy starter and we need to have a Lefty). While I concur with Snakebites that Scherzer is an elite pitcher, I don't think it is unreasonable to assume that this could have been Max's best season; his numbers are bound to regress a bit. In my mind, it's the basic "sell high" strategy; his value will never be higher. Given his crazy high payday and the fact that he SHOULD command a king's ransom, it's the time to be looking ahead and trade him now. Look at what James Shields commanded in a trade (I think he had another year of team control but Scherzer is much better)...a top-5 overall prospect in Will Meyers. I'm not saying you can get a top-5 guy for Max, because it is going to cost a lot to pay him next year, but I mean still...power pitchers are worth alot.
Porcello ultimately is more likely. He's young and his numbers were better last year, as was his overall game. He could bring back some serious talent as well.
Castellanos should be the guy at third going forward, I disagree completely with my pal Snakebites here. A major prospect that can man the corner for years, his bat will play well there. You've spent a lot on developing him, may as well give him a chance. I think he takes it and runs with it and next year at this time we are discussing how big a star he is going to be, not whether he can play it.
As for Wilson, meh, give him a shot I guess. Would rather try and pry someone else away in a trade

Honestly right now I still see us as taking a step back:
Gone:
Fister
Fielder
Peralta
Infante
Benoit
In:
Smyly (added to rotation from pen)
Kinsler
Castellanos (likely added to infield)
Nathan
I realize we're probably not done, but I feel like that's a lot more going out than coming in. I'm not sure what we're planning on adding, but its hard for me to say that looks like as good a team as we had last year. The Fister move is still a head scratcher for me.

Yep, don't understand the Fister move. I feel the same, we've lost more than we've gained. Wish Peralta wasn't so pricey
