As per wiretap. I know its idle speculation and its not THAT likely that he gets this kind of money, but I still never thought Id see the day when the Tigers would even be discussing this kind of money over this many years for one player.
Once Pudge comes off, that will offset quite a bit of this, I suppose, but guys like Verlander are gonna be making a lot more than they are now before too much longer.
Looking more and more like the Sox and Yanks all the time....

From what I've heard its a 8 year; near $155 Million dollar deal, I still think he could get $200 Million to the tell truth especially if A-Rod has another great season, It'll show how valuable these type of players really are. I do agree though, Verlander & other young stars for this team are going to also want money.

^Yeah, I was just referring to the wiretap article, but your figure could be correct as well.
It would certainly be in the teams' best interests to extend him soon rather than waiting until he hits the free agent market. The wind is blowing in the direction of some massive contracts down the road, its only gonna get worse from here.
Of course, Im sure Miggy's agent knows this, so it would take a pretty hefty extension offer to get them to forgo free agency. Guys like Soriano have cashed in huge on free agency in recent years.
