The Tigers traded Pudge to the Yankees for pitcher Kyle Farnsworth :-?

Not exactly a shock, he wasn't in our long term plans.

Farnsworth isn't outstanding, but he gives us a spare arm.

^^

Yeah and a fist to the face to anyone who tells him something he doesn't want too hear. What does this tell us as Tigers fans, we're done? We're giving in?

^I don't really think so.

Pudge is a big name, but Inge is capable as a defensive catcher, and we don't really NEED Pudge's bat. Farnsworth gives us another reliever thats better than Fossom, thats always a plus.

We may well be done, but this trade doesn't mean that.

Relax, kiddo.

So is Brandon Inge the new everyday catcher, or will the Tigers be calling up a minor league catcher to be their starter or split time with Inge?

Exactly Pudge is a big name but he's not playing at an all-star level anymore. 5 HR and 32 RBI in 300+ ABs isn't exactly lighting the world on fire.

I really like Inge... he's more than serviceable...

Also, I'm pretty sure Pudge is a FA at the end of the season... so his days in Detroit were likely numbered anyways...

Pudge was gone soon anyways. Our bullpen is laughable so adding Farnsworth can only help.

And no, this doesnt mean we are packing it in. Inge and Sardinha will catch now i bet

In my opinion adding Farnsworth outweighs the difference between Inge and Pudge.

Regardless of who they have they're going to be hard pressed to make the playoffs, but I like their chances more with Farnsworth then I do Pudge.

I'm not a fan of it, just because I think Pudge's greatest effect is on the pitchers he's catching for. A quote in an article about the trade from a NY executive said of Farnsworth, "He does less with more than anyone in baseball."

If I understand this correctly, we basically traded away Pudge and 2 draft picks for Kyle Farnsworth. Had we just kept Pudge and let him go, any team that signs him would have to give us two picks due to him being a Class A free agent.

How is this a good move? At all? In any way, shape, or form?

Pudge and Farnsworth are both expirings, but because Pudge is a higher class free agent, the Tigers would have received 2 supplementary picks that New York now gets because we get Farnsworthless for the rest of our shorten season.

This is not a good move in anyway. We didn't even save enough salary for it to matter. There was a reason we traded Kyle to begin with. His ERA is deceiving. He's a very streaky pitcher who really cost teams games late.

Pudge definitely isn't the player he once was, but he's still worth more than a mediocre bullpen player. I am disgusted that we gave the Yankees a player for absolute garbage.

Pudge was pretty ineffective this year, but I really thought he was worth more than Farnsworth. I feel like we just got yet another bullpen pitcher that will make me cringe everytime he comes out. The idea was in the right place (give up an expiring contract for pitching help) but the actual deal doesn't excite me.
