The White Sox seem like they've conceded.

The threat of the Twins is very real though. We need to string some wins together, and do it soon.

The Tigers have the advantage of closing out the season with 7 straight home games, including a 4 game series against the Twins, where homefield advantage should be a big help.

The Twins, however, have a really easy remaining schedule, other than their 7 games against the Tigers.

Detroit has been treading water for nearly the entire year. We've had a few small winning streaks, but nothing to take ahold of the easiest division in baseball. If the Tigers were in the East, they'd be in 4th place. In the West, they'd be in 3rd. As others have said, though, the Tigers have a good shot as long as they get in the playoffs, with perhaps the best shortened pitching rotation in baseball.

Twinkies are a threat, but not if the Tigers keep it up. Our pitching and defense has carried us all year.... we NEED our offense to show up every night.

If Magglio starts showing some power and Huff stops being gay, we can definitely take this easy.

Porcello pitched one helluva game. Gave up 1 run over 7 IP. Leyland sent him out in the 8th, got stumped on a breaking pitch for a HR and Leyland pulls him immediately. UGH!!

Twinkies lost to the White Sox. Twinkies are now 4.5 GB, Sox are 7 GB.

Could really use a sweep tomorrow.

Great day today. It's the 7 remaining head to head games against Minnesota that worries me. Sweeps either way would change the landscape of the race.

Twnkies won't sweep the Tigers in either of those series. We just need to keep a sizeable lead. I'd like a 6-7 game lead. Pretty hard for the Twins to come back from that down this stretch.

Tigers win, Twins lose again. That gives our magic number a 2 game hop. The Tigers have picked the right time to win a few in a row.

If we can keep this 6-7 game lead over the next couple weeks, it will really put all of the pressure on Minnesota down the stretch.

If the Tigers go .500 the rest of the way, the Twins would have to go 20-6 just to tie us. It's not over, but it's sure heading in that direction.

Yeah things are going pretty well lately, I just wish they would use this time to insert Dlugach just so they can get a good look at him and have a better idea of how reliable of an option he might be for later on.

Our SS Everett is the #1 weakest link of the team as far as our players are concerned. Santiago is fine, but any game that Everett is in we are disadvantaged. I'm not the least concerned with chemistry as I don't believe taking Everett out will affect chemistry in a negative way of any significance whatsoever. The key thing to consider are the gains that we would get from removing him. Any effects of chemistry would be relatively infintesimal w/respect to the opportunity to improve the team. Work in Dlugach and get him some reps. It will also give us a nice preview for next year to see him get some work in.

Everrett/Santiago is a great SS duo. No need to mess it up because you don't like the guy.

I don't like Everett either, but I don't think putting a rookie into a pennant race is a great idea, especially with the team playing so well at the moment.

I would, however, like to see some guys get some PH at bats if we're winning or losing by a bunch.... thing is, even with all this winning, every game has been close.

It CANT be messed up. It's statistically improbable that another player could play as bad as Everett. He's THAT bad. His fielding is NOT strong enough to make up for his ridiculously bad plate value. Even if Dlugach did worse than him, the amount of variance to play under Everett's level is so small that there is very little to lose, but there is a mountain of possible upside. It's a statistically lopsided gamble in our favor.
