He was the voice of the Tigers throughout my childhood, and most likely yours too. He had a genuine love for the game that came across in every one of his broadcasts. Given his age, I can't imagine he has too much longer to live. I hope he has a chance to spend some time with his family and I hope his remaining time is as painless as possible.

Sad sad day for Tigerstown. I know he's lived a full life, but damn, it's still hard to hear. I teared up when I heard.

You can bet Ernie won't just stand there like a house by the side of the road and let cancer ruin the rest of his life, though. He's a tough spirit and a true legend.
