Granderson, Jackson dealt
Yahoo! reporting its done
We deal Jackson to the D-bax, Granderson to the Yanks.
We get Scherzer from the D-bax, Austin Jackson and Phil Coke from the Yanks
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=A ... &type=lgns
I dont know much about Jackson, but i believe he is a very high CF prospect. Scherzer is a flamethrower and still very young himself, though very inconsistent
Dont know how i feel about this. Money was easily the biggest factor, but Grandy was Grandy man...

Re: Granderson, Jackson dealt
My issue isn't with trading Granderson or Jackson, since we're actually getting quality prospects out of the deal.
My issue is that they're being dealt because of stupid mistakes like Magglio, Dontrelle, and Nate. And since they're untradeable, you're stuck moving quality players for prospects. And worse, you have to move one of your most popular players, too.
That's what bothers me so much.
At least Jackson is considered a high quality prospect.

Same here. Such stupid, stupid contracts forced us into this. Which is terribly disappointing. Seeing Grandy do great things while Guillen pops out, Magz struggles to cover even a quarter of Right, Nate getting lit up for 6 a game and Dontrelle doing nothing

Re: Granderson, Jackson dealt
Damn, I left this morning feeling good about the Yankees pulling out of the deal and come home to news that it's on the verge of being completed.
I'm in the same boat as HK, It's not that we're trading them, it's that we're trading them because we are paying guys like Dontrelle, Magglio, Guillen, Bondo, Nate, etc who aren't doing **** for the team.
Daniel is Mark Schlereths son. I've seen him pitch a few times. He was okay, nothing special.
It's basically Edwin for Scherzer and Schlereth and Curtis for Coke and Jackson. Which isn't a bad deal, but they sure as hell aren't the players that should be traded.
I went on facebook and numerous Tigers fans are pissed off about the news. Grandy was a very popular player.

Re: Granderson, Jackson dealt
Actually looking at the deals, without the whole "crappy contracts forced this" thing, Detroit made out as best they could.
Jackson projects out to be a Torii Hunter-type player with less power. Which is pretty good, actually. Scherzer may be already as good as Jackson, but is under team control for 5 years, which is better than Jackson at one year. Coke adds some bullpen depth and Schlereth is a nice pitching prospect.
It's just sad that it came to this, but I give Dombrowski credit for taking a horrible situation (though he created it) and at least getting something out of it.

Jacksons ceiling is Curtis Granderson. Scherzer is good not outstanding. Schlereth and Coke will be decent in our pen. But damn this hurts.

I disagree. Jackson could be very good. And he hits for average, which would be something new
Scherzer has the stuff to be really good. He throws freakin fire out there. He just needs a really good pitching coach. As a #3 starter with Verlander and Porcello, those three have the potential to be destructive.
We can always use middle relief and Coke will be ok. I heard Schlereth was a first rounder a couple years ago.... cant argue with that

^He was a 2008 first IIRC.
Austin Jackson is good, but I'm not as high on him as others are.

Jackson and Granderson are very different offensively, hence why I compared him more to Hunter. I'd say Jackson is more of a leadoff man than Granderson is.

We better hit a fuucking homerun in free agency.

Sorry, but this move all but guarantees there will be no big free agent signings. If we're desperate enough to trade away two quality players to save money, it means we're not going to go out and spend money on any other players. Hopefully we can get someone to take one of our bad deals off our hands, but I doubt it.
More than likely, probably a few small signings here or there, but that's it. We simply don't have the money to compete with other teams.

^ Yup
There wont be any big or even close to big moves. We are trying to drop a bunch of salary clearly

That being said, if we find any takers for our overpaid bunch, we can speed up the process a bit. If we get salary down to below $60 million, I think we'll start spending again. But right now, we just have to suffer through it and wait for those guys to expire.

Re: Granderson, Jackson dealt
I'll admit I'm only a casual fan of the game, but yeah, I can't even see following them now. I took my wife and father-in-law to a game a few years ago when I was back visiting in the States and we saw Grandy make that impossible catch to save a home run, running full speed as he went up to the wall. Hands down the best sporting play I've ever seen live. It immediately created an electricity throughout the entire stadium.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

I think this is how it's going to be:
The casual fan is going to hate it and not attend as many games. Granderson was just too popular.
The fan that follows the team won't like it, but will understand why it happened and move on more easily.

Re: Granderson, Jackson dealt
I understand why it had to happen, but it makes the Tigers so much less interesting to follow for me.
Off topic, but looking at your location...I was Mega Man for Halloween this year. I did have a mother****ing cannon for a hand, and I shot lots of drunk Japaneses business men dead in Kyoto that night.

I'm... very confused by this sentence.
