SARASOTA, Fla. -- Nate Robertson was traded to the Florida Marlins this afternoon for left-handed pitching prospect Jay Voss, and Dontrelle Willis and Jeremy Bonderman were named the fourth and fifth starters for the Detroit Tigers.

He said Willis, who starts the third game of the season in Kansas City, and Bonderman were selected for the rotation before the trade was made. Dombrowski said the Marlins will receive cash considerations, and that could be interpreted to paying a significant amount of Robertson’s $10 million salary.

Nates been here awhile and he is a good guy, but excellent, excellent move. He is not a good pitcher and his contract is horrible (though expiring) and getting a prospect for him is amazing

Voss, 22, was an eighth-round pick in 2007. He was 3-0 with a 2.97 ERA and struck out 36 in 36 1/3 innings for Double-A Jacksonville after being promoted there in 2009. Dombrowski said he will pitch for Double-A Erie.

Doesnt sound like much but i like those numbers; a K an inning and a low ERA. Very nice.

So the starters go: Verlander, Porcello, Willis, Scherzer, Bonderman I think

Bonine, Fu-Te Ni and Brad Thomas also make the club in the pen

Considering I didn't think the Tigers could get anything worthwhile for Nate, this is a very good move. I like Nate the person, but not Nate the pitcher. Considering, I think, the fact that he lives in Canton, MI...i'd like to see him come back as a relief pitcher before his career is all over.

Pressure time Willis.

Well it was expiring anyway. Frankly we didnt have room for him and from what i read he might have been cut had a trade not worked out. Getting a prospect for him is about all you can do, so kudos to DD

He was the odd man out. Tigers tried to trade him last year after his tantrum, but no one would take him. Getting a minor leaguer for him is a good move. It solidifies our rotation, and improves our farm system.

Good to see him gone. I thought we had to give out positive assets just to get rid of him, the prospect is just icing to the cake. Great move, Dave

As much as i didnt feel he was a good pitcher, he was a great guy and went out with class, as i expected

Robertson posted a message on a piece of paper and hung it from his locker before departing: "Thank you everybody for being a good teammate."

"I wanted the Tigers to want me in my selfishness," Robertson said. "I wanted to be a part of that great place with all those great memories. The morning after I got married, I was traded to the Tigers (by the Marlins). Detroit has been the only home I've ever known with my wife and son. So, it turned our world upside down.

"But I was blessed to be there as long as I was. The organization was so great to me and my family. So were the city of Detroit and our church. And it starts at the top and goes down through people like the Harwells and Tananas."

Kinda touching actually. We'll miss ya Nate.........kind of
