I am kind of worried about our bullpen this season and am withholding judgement about the decision to have Bonifacio leadoff and play 3B...

if we're not in it by the All Star Break, there will be another salary purge, probably Cantu, Uggla, Hermida, Ross would all be on the block.

We have a ton of young bats in the minors and no doubt $ is going to be down this year across the sport

looks like the lineup is going to be

1) Bonifacio 3B
2) Baker C
3) Hanley SS
4) Cantu 1B
5) Uggla 2B
6) Hermida RF
7) Ross LF
8) Maybin CF

Gaby Sanchez not being able to beat out Bonifacio is concerning

This team is going to have to somewhere or the other establish a core group of players to bring into the new stadium that the fans can get attached to and show promise going into that new stadium. A fire-sale like move every tradedeadline if we're not in it, will only set us back, unless they can get proven talent who are ready to produce on the ML level.

well, I don't think Uggla (Couglan is ready soon and Uggla is making some coin finally and is around 30) makes it as a Marlin in the new stadium, probably not Hermida either. It's some of the pitchers that I'd like to keep, I think Nolasco and JJ are free agents or heading into their last arbitration year the year our stadium opens, I hope they are there -- but it's not the Marlins way to sign pitchers (or really anyone) long term. Guys in the minors with high ceiling who will probably be on that team in 2011 include Logan Morrison and Gaby Sanchez, and Mike Stanton a 19 year old power hitter who people compare to young Ken Griffey. He's the guy they refused to trade for Manny.

I think their plans for lineup of the future are like this:

1B: Sanchez
2B: Couglan
SS: Hanley
3B: Bonifacio or Matt Dominguez
LF: Morrison
CF: Maybin
RF: Stanton
C: Baker/Skipworth

we're loaded with young bats for the first time in recent Marlins memory, since the 1998 firesale with Mike Lowell, Derek Lee, Mark Kotsay, Preston Wilson, those guys coming in, but these guys may be deeper in number

Agreed on the point that if we're not in it (as in really in it, not 6 games back in 4th place), alot of players will be dealt, probably anywhere for decent pitching, with guys like Nolasco and JJ being FA's i think in a couple years.

But with the economy this bad, alot of teams out of it might be dealing their stars at the deadline, and lets say we are neck and neck (and neck) with the Mets and Phillies, this might be a year we try and make a splash at the trading deadline

I know one thing, Jake Peavy is going to get traded this year, let's just hope its not to NY or PHI

Hanley with a grand slam baby! For some reason I feel like we hit grand slams a lot on Opening Days, I know we did it at least twice before (or am pretty sure). Nolasco with an OK start, his ERA won't look too pretty though.

Awesome start to the season! -- Bonafacio looked great today at the plate, from the hilights I saw. How was his defense, and our defense overall, especially up the middle?

last night was a much better win. nobody is more fun to watch jerk one than big dan ugla...hope im wrong about him having a bad year...

if bonifacio works out at 3rd, cantu at 1st looks and works so much better from a defensive standpoint.

josh johnson was great. cant wait for this weekend to see a bunch of angry and uphappy mets fans....(even if they win)...

is it fair to say we hold the best rotation, or at least the best 1-2 pitching combo in the NL, do we not? -- i mean, after santana the mets have who? perez? the phillie? moyer? the braves after lowe, have who?

3-0!

Huge series coming up this weekend. We've gotta get 2 outta 3, at the very least.

We DO have the best rotation in the National League right now, no question (I just hope Andrew Miller can perform up to his potential this season).

The only question marks are the bullpen, and if the offense can keep it up. I think we'll need a midseason trade for a bat and a middle reliever if we want to be serious contenders. Of course, this sounds like the Florida Marlins circa every year since 2002 or so, starting pitching has almost never been an issue for us.
