One of the most unique aspects of Minute Maid Park since its inception in 2000, Tal's Hill in centerfield, will be removed as part of a renovation project that will cost more than $15 million.
Funding for the project, which is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2016 season, will be handled by the Astros.
The thinking behind the project is to enhance the fan's experience and to lessen the chance for injury to players in that part of the park.
The Harris County-Houston Sports Authority, which is the facility's landlord, has given its preliminary approval to the project.
It is definitely a unique feature, but I have always been amazed that it didn't cause more injuries.
