Astros sign free agent Yulieski Gourriel

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Sat Jul 16, 2016 12:45 am

Astros sign former-Cuban 3rd baseman Yulieski Gourriel to a 5 year, $47.5M deal.

So what does this mean for Alex Bregman this season? Wait until next year?

No clue about this guy but I wonder what they do with Reed, Gattis, and Valbuena. Also most importantly Bregman

I get the feeling that there may be a trade for a pitcher coming up.

I have read that there is absolutely no interest from the Astros in entertaining any offers including Bregman. Sounds like both he & Gourriel will be up at some point this season.

I expect Worth will be one of the players involved in making room for Gurriel/Bregman, and Gattis to stick around as the backup C, but what they do with Valbuena/Reed at this point I'm not so sure. I would think one of them will be packaged in a deal for a pitcher, but who? Valbuena is a FA after this season isn't he? He's been good, but I'd rather see him moved than give up on Reed so soon. I guess it depends on who they can get in return.

I'm very curious to see what moves are made at the deadline.

At the very least the signing has given the Astros some flexibility for future moves.

I don't think that they'll move Reed unless it's for a slam-dunk of a starting pitcher. Valbuena & Gomez are more likely to be moved, and someone is probably paying attention to Valbuena's bat right now.

And how do you spell this guy's last name? I've seen Gourriel, Gorriel and Gurriel.

Only pitcher out there on the market I'd give Reed up for is Julio Ternhan
