Nice to get that win, but it would be even nicer if our bats could really get it going.

Hinch must really not trust Giles in these tough situations if he's sending Devo out there to close it out in a 1-run game.

SEATTLE -- Charlie Morton pitched seven shutout innings, allowing only three hits and no walks while striking out eight, as the Astros defeated the Mariners, 9-2, on Thursday afternoon at Safeco Field.

The Astros have three of the top four ERAs among AL starters, including Gerrit Cole at 0.96 and Justin Verlander at 1.35.

Morton has gone six innings or longer in all four of his starts this season, but that's nothing new for this staff. The starting pitchers for Houston have gone six innings or more in the last seven games.

Good to see the bats coming alive, hope they can sustain that and go on a nice win streak.

Verlander (4-0) retired 20 of the first 21 batters he faced before Albert Pujols hit a line-drive homer into the left-field seats with two outs in the seventh to spoil the shutout bid. It was Pujols' 64th career homer against the Astros -- the most by an opponent against Houston, including the postseason.

Damn you, Pujols! You've done your damage against us over the years, it's time to give it a rest.

Verlander improved to 9-0 with a 1.33 ERA in 11 regular-season starts with the Astros and has won 11 consecutive regular-season decisions, which is the longest active streak in the Major Leagues.

Big series against the Yanks starting tonight! Hope Morton can get it started with a strong outing and a W.

Yanks have won 9 in a row, so they're playing good baseball right now, not gonna be easy. Hopefully the bats offered Jobu enough rum. If not, they better have that bucket of KFC on hand just in case.
