Newly acquired Dan Haren will make his Angel debut at home against Clay Buchholz and the Boston Red Sox.

Also, the Angels #1 relief pitching prospect, Michael Kohn, has been called up. More on this as the news develops.

Bell was sent down, which makes sense since he pitched yesterday and by the looks of it the Angels will be able to use Haren-Weaver-Santana-Piniero without a 5th starter for the next few games till August 7.

LA Angels Line-up for July 26, 2010:

SS Aybar, Erick
2B Izturis, Maicer
RF Abreu, Bobby
CF Hunter, Torii
DH Matsui, Hideki
3B Callaspo, Alberto
1B Napoli, Mike
LF Rivera, Juan
C Mathis, Jeff

P Haren, Dan

I wish Kendrick was at second with Izturis as the DH, but this is the second best lineup we can put out right now.

Does anything ever go right for us this season? Haha, wow. I'm not used to this losing feeling as a fan of the Angels and Lakers. Now I know how the Rangers and Clippers have felt all these years.

Based strictly on resumes, Angels manager Mike Scioscia could have picked his No. 1 and 2 starters out of a hat.

Jered Weaver's career numbers are, if anything, only marginally better than Dan Haren's and Haren has been at it longer. But Haren, who made opening day starts in 2007 and 2010 and even started the 2007 All-Star game for the American League, said he's content to take a back seat to his younger teammate.

Weaver is slated to pitch Thursday's opener in Kansas City with Haren following on Friday.

"Jered’s been here for a while. He’s the leader of the staff," Haren said after his final spring tuneup Sunday at Angel Stadium. "I do what I can, too, but he’s also an Angel all the way from the beginning. He's the one we'll turn to and we've got a good staff."

Haren experienced a "dead arm" period earlier this spring and was knocked around by the Chicago Cubs' Triple-A team in his previous outing, but he had little trouble with the Padres Sunday. He got through five innings, allowing three hits and a run while striking out four.

"I’m where I need to be. I’m ready to throw 100-plus pitches and I’m ready to compete," Haren said.

The Angels will use Weaver, Haren, Ervin Santana (Saturday) and Scott Kazmir in the opening series. Kansas City will counter with Luke Hochevar, Jeff Francis, Kyle Davies and Bruce Chen.

And Jepsen on the same pace as last year. At least our offense showed up for a few innings--even got a contribution from Mathis.

I was excited Weaver continued his dominance from last season. I thought '10 might have been a fluke, but after one game, that thought has been put to rest! Need Trumbo to not look so bad at the plate too.

Great OF defense, even Wells. Some offense would be nice though.

Kevin Jepsen needs to be waived, along with Kazmir, Mathis, and Wood. Time for rebuilding mode!

Howie Kendrick is finally going to breakout this year and be the player everyone had him pegged since he reached the Majors. Three homeruns already. Even Izturis and Callaspo hit homeruns today. Kazmir was his usual self. I hope him and Jepsen are released ASAP.
