are we done?

Post#1 » by Neddy » Mon Jan 14, 2013 6:16 am

am i alone thinking this roster is not complete?

as of now, we have 8 starters. come opening day, i am sure one of two will be traded for sure.

if that is the case, where are we lacking? the most glaring needs are at 3B and LF.
most of us, well at least myself would love to see luis cruz become a MLB regular, but he is an unproven commodity. as much as i love his defense, his OBP-BA differential is scary to say the least. if he doesn't hit, he doesn't get on base. crawford is coming off of an awful seasons in boston with one of the most ridiculous contracts in baseball. we have a guy named puig waiting in the minors, and have no room to add him to the majors. it seems the dodger brass wants to trade ethier to make that room, but i beg the differ. if there is a player that must go, to make room for puig, is crawford. to make that happen is a tricky business.

hanley is not a major league caliber SS. most of us i think knows that. i think his future lies at 3B, if not 2B once mark ellis' contract is over.

i would like for us to hold on to dee gordon and see if he can become a major league hitter in 2014.

but what about now?

does anyone have any opinion on how this team can fare now, and in the future?

leadoff hitter and SS.

Apparently Hanley hasn't been getting those reps at SS like he was supposed to be doing this offseason because he tweaked a shoulder. He's just been DHing as far as I've read....so realistically, we're gonna bring him back at SS playing the same way he played all last season....he needs to go to 3rd.

we have no lead off hitter....this will ruin us...and we will spend most of the 1st half experimenting until the FO finally realizes at some point that we have to get one.

this sucks...and why I'm mad at Dee Gordon....and why i miss Raffy even though he's old...kill 2 birds with one stone.

not worried about the starters cuz we'll just make one of them our long man and trade them off as the season approaches and before the deadline....and Bills will be hurt before we can blink (have no idea why we're lying to ourselves about this situation...i guess it's cuz TJS is imminent but not necessary right now).

trade ethier and an arm for andrus (i know ur not big on him needy but he's good and better than dee gordon and only a few months older)
sign michael bourn for like 2-25 for leadoff and put Andrus at like 7 in the lineup....or or or....forget that and just put Puig in RF and let him take his lumps and put Andrus as lead off.

they're not moving Kinsler and that would give them a bat and unblock Profar.

moving hanley to 3rd is most ideal for us. his defense sucks even more at 3rd than he is at SS, but at least ground balls per game goes to 3rd at much less rate than it does to SS. i think cruz is a very good defensive SS. but if Dee can make an offensive improvements, he fills the shoe the best.

as we are now, it is pretty obvious that mark ellis and skip shumaker will platoon at 2B and lead off. individually their splits against righty vs lefty exclusively, looks very good. i hate skip's defense and i hate mark's at bats against righties even more. luis cruz is one of those odd balls like AJ ellis who hits better against righties as a right handed batter. what if we use them all at 2B platoon and pinching utility off the bench? give dee the key to the car and have him lead off, play SS. if he fails, we plug the hole with all the surplus we already have. mark and skip are vets and they don't need at bats to start the season to be effective through out, hanley gets his at 3rd, and if dee fails hanley will be back at SS. Dee gets a chance to lead off and see if he can come through this time around.

the other alternative is to trade ethier to mariners and sign bourn. this move gives us a solid lead off player, but severely weakens our power in our lineup overall.

at the risk of not making this like the other threads.

i like how u think.
mattingly has no choice but to put Hanley at 3rd....michael bourn would be a great sign for this year but he would complicate things for us moving forward (moving kemp, making room for Yasiel).

realistically since I don't think they'll make a big move anytime soon and that a big move (like last year, with last years results) scares the hell out of them....I'm hoping Dee Gordon shows up man.

it's on him....on him to be a quality SS and our leadoff hitter.
i believe he will get his shot at some point and it's on him to kill both those birds with one stone and help us win it all...just my thoughts.

sorry Luis.

oh man i just got informed about this.... hope this is just a rumor.

if rolen must be signed by guggenheim, i pray that this move is to strengthen the pinch hitter role of our bench. scott rolen can not play the whole season and his defense is reputation based at this point as well.

but the news about Cruz and his winterball BA is disturbing.... .245 with 8 Hrs is better than .179 i guess.

the closer we get to the ST, the more the issues at the left side of our infield are becoming problematic for me.

it is going to cost us games and is vitally important.

apparently Donnie B is happy with where Hanley is given that he's leaving for the WBC on Sunday.

good sign.
he said he was taking his ground balls even though he wasn't playing SS over the winter because of the injury.

very good thing to hear.
I'm getting the faith that by year's end he will be an adequate SS.
