Re: I don't get this Aaron Harang deal
well it's just another usual move of Ned's buy high and sell low method. but it is pretty insignificant and i'll tell you why.
Aaron Harang was the most vocal one out of the three that got pushed out of starting gig. Lilly already expressed that coming off the bench does not bother him. Caps was not happy, but he stated publicly that he will do what is most important for the team regardless of how we use him. most importantly, caps have a wealth of experience as a relief pitcher and harang does not. i know we have paco and JP as our lefties off the pen, but they are short relief pitchers, who doesn't last more than an inning or two. in case of a melt down by any of our starters, or losing game where we need a guy off the bench to keep things close just in case for extended innings, it helps to have two lefties who can go the distance. more importantly, caps is versatile enough to be an emergency starter or long relief. Ted is just not tradable at this point of his career.
do i think Ned could have gotten more for harang? yes. do i think hernandez is significantly better than fed? no. but i believe at this point the dodger brass has tim federowitz as the heir to AJ's throne as everyday catcher. AJ may not have a long service time, but he is in his 30s already. tim is 25. they want to give him at bat every day, and that won't come from being a backup at the majors.
one thing i hope, is that we are not looking to package fed along with someone else (say, ethier) for a trade when they bring up puig. ted lilly already started his rehab assignment, but his roster spot will be made when tim is send down to AAA. once 3 weeks has passed into regular season and we have secured another year for puig's service, there is a good chance he is coming up and carl is doing very well so far this season (so is ethier imo) i sure hope we don't throw tim in a deal or trade ethier. i hope carl continues to crush the ball to raise his trade value despite his atrocious contract.

what if Carl actually plays like Tampa Carl?
I've always held out hope for this.
what if he is actually worth the buck?

Re: I don't get this Aaron Harang deal
then we will have a great problem of having 4 good OFers to choose from. i just don't see the dodger brass paying 4 OFers what they are owed. one of them will still have to go.
ehhhhh f it.

boy was i wrong about carl. i guess ethier is the one to be on the trade block soon. hope we go out and get a 3rd baseman with a real bat or a great prospect that is near to the senior circuit.

easily the most annoying team to watch over the last 4-5 days.
and I'm starting to get sick of mattingly. he blew the arizona series.
we need hanley back bad. sellers is dead weight.
we need to move kemp in the lineup....we'll get him back to 3rd later.
we get crawford and ellis on and then he just puts another out up for adrian or the next guy and usually he's striking out doing it....swinging through stuff a good matt kemp would thrash.
funny the guys everybody dreaded coming here:
the 2 everyday players hot as i dunno what. on base every time i look up.
and the pitcher started off slow but just threw a gem and lost in the 9th because of our anemic offense.
im quitting in April.
season's over.

Re: I don't get this Aaron Harang deal
my bad.
i also wanted to say.
i wanna deal andre and lilly to the pirates for a prospect since they have some young hogs in there and then bring Yasiel up.
i want my team to fly on the base pads man.

Re: I don't get this Aaron Harang deal
aaron harang update.
with mariners this season so far,
6 games started, 1-5 record, 8.58 ERA, 1.553 WHIP, 45 ERA+.
i guess getting a veteran backup catcher wasn't all that bad, except Ned had to pay the difference in salary outright. 45 ERA+ is atrocious. that is far, far below the average.
