Still believe he helped make some great picks on his way out.

Picks that we're counting on to produce and picks that have our current farm valuable.

Last night was probably the best he looked to me all season regardless of opponent or batted ball luck.

He was putting that fastball exactly where he wanted it. Few mistakes on that end.
The curve and that slider was devastating. Would have had a no hitter going into the 5th (maybe 6th?) if Asdrubal Cabrera didn't hit a grounder that beat the shift.

Post#1004 » by Quake Griffin » Fri May 13, 2016 1:50 pm

“I break from analytics every single night,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said before Wednesday’s game against the New York Mets.

He cited recent examples involving Joc Pederson and Trayce Thompson when each was left in to bat against like-handed pitchers rather than lifted for a pinch-hitter as the numbers would have suggested.

“There’s things that I do every night that go against analytics.”

Roberts implied that some of those decisions involve his bullpen. Over the weekend in Toronto, he talked about relying on constant evaluation and conversations with his relievers as much – if not more – than any data the front office provides him.

“For me, you try to continue to put guys in the best possible position to have success,” Roberts said in Toronto. “You look at guys’ usage and make sure they’re not being overused and they feel strong or they feel good. But a lot of it for me and Rick (Honeycutt, pitching coach) and (bullpen coach) Josh Bard is seeing their psyches because there’s up and downs but the people who have to be the most confident are the guys themselves.

“I personally don’t look at a lot of the numbers. I look at more the look in their eye and seeing the confidence in the voices in the conversations we’re having. If you don’t have that, then it becomes a red flag.”

So, Roberts was asked if he thought the team’s record would be better or worse if he did make every decision based on analytics. A long pause followed – a very long pause.

“Honestly, I don’t know. I really don’t,” he said. “You can’t (say). The thing is the game is played by humans. There’s a lot of things where you’re looking at their bullpen, who they’ve got left, who they’ve got coming in – you’ve got to play the game, the strategy. There’s no black and white.”

2003-Billingsley
2004-Scott Elbert Blake DeWitt and Justin Orenduff {earth shattering!}..3 1st rd picks,3 whiffs!
2005-Luke Hochevar {did not sign}
2006- Kershaw and Bryan Morris {!}....AND Preston Mattingley!!!.3 1st rd picks,2 whiffs
2007-Chris Withrow {arm problems since drafted,and he can`t get anyone out!}}
2008-Ethan Martin {5.41 ERA three minor seasons}
2009-Aaron Miller {7.04 ERA in AA last year}
2010-Zach Lee {currently shut down,MRI due}

Lets see?..Brian Pilkington,Greg Miller,Scott Elbert,Justin Orenduff,Bryan Morris,Chris Withrow,Ethan Martin,and Aaron Miller have "worked out well for us".Hey,those are just the first round picks wasted!

from this list of players Logan drafted, it is obvious Mr. White must stay away from any prospects named Chris, Justin, or Scott.
...or better yet, now that he is working for the Padres, he should continue to draft pitchers named Chris, Justin, or Scott. :D

anywho, great insightful stuff as always, man. looks like Logan White should be sending 5% of his biweekly paychecks to Luke Hochevar for making him look good with Clay pick.

hey but when it comes to scouting and evaluating talent, we will always have Mike Brito to be proud of.

Ross against his former teammate Wacha.

Let's do this. We need to get a streak going

Bad Throw by Seager

Post#1007 » by Ranma » Sat May 14, 2016 2:20 am

Stripling was about to get out of the 1st inning unscathed with the double-play grounder, but Corey Seager throws the ball away so that Adrian Gonzalez didn't even have a chance to reach for it. There was no reason for him to miss the throw other than that his arm had a hitch or something on the throw. Now we have runners on 1st and 3rd again due to the subsequent base hit. Corey's play at SS is beginning to worry me now.

Howie Continues to Be Snake-Bit

Post#1009 » by Ranma » Sat May 14, 2016 2:28 am

I've been harping on Kendrick's struggles, but he's been hitting the ball hard of late. The problem has been that he's been pretty much unlucky with respect to the opposition's defense on the balls he's put into play. Howie was just robbed of a HR by the Cards' centerfielder.

Makes me upset when he does that because Crawford should be in the lineup. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Dodgers Now Up 3 - 1 (Now Up 4 - 1)

Post#1013 » by Ranma » Sat May 14, 2016 2:55 am

Stripling helps himself with a single to extend the inning, which then leads to another run scored off Kendrick's single.

Edit: Stripling and Kendrick lead off the 4th inning with another set of back-to-back singles.

Make that 5 - 1, Dodgers

Post#1014 » by Ranma » Sat May 14, 2016 3:31 am

So I guess it's not just me thinking that the Cards' infield defense is shaky. They blow a DP opportunity while failing to get an out on the play with their 32nd error on the season, the most in MLB.

speaking of the Cardinals' infield, Colton Wong supposedly sports one of the very elite bat speed in the game today, but it is the guys with some of the slowest bat speed who are kicking asses. it seems to me that no matter how fast your bat is, you must be able to see the ball first.

7 - 3, Dodgers

Post#1016 » by Ranma » Sat May 14, 2016 4:02 am

Geez. The Cardinals have 4 errors tonight with SS Aledmys Diaz credited with 3 of them. Maybe we can deal Alex Guerrero to St. Louis. His defense might actually be an upgrade for them.

3 run lead.
Runner in scoring position.
We need 12 outs.

Good game for the bullpen to earn their stripes with this fan base.

Considering Wong in 2011 Draft

Post#1018 » by Ranma » Sat May 14, 2016 4:12 am

Speaking of 2B Kolten Wong, he was one of the guys I was kind of hoping the Dodgers would draft back in 2011. We ended up reaching for Chris Reed instead with an apparent mandate from McCourt to cut costs. I was also eyeing C Blake Swihart and RHP Taylor Guerrieri at the time. I missed on Sonny Gray, Joe Ross, and Blake Snell. I wasn't full on rooting for Wong because we had Ivan DeJesus, Jr. and Jesmuel Valentin both in the system at the time to be lined up in taking over the keystone of the Dodgers' infield.

Wong promptly triples and eventually scores on the wild pitch. Stripling is chased from the game as he's been struggling mightily in the 6th inning.

Yasiel Puig's solo shot to the opposite field gives the Dodgers an 8 - 4 lead in the 6th inning.

You see that call to ring up Trayce Thompson?

This ump trying to rush the game along?
