well, boys, see you all tomorrow. expecting shutting the door in game 4 with Alex on the mound. we didn't use Maeda or Morrow, so we have 2 innings covered, with Cingrani and Field ready for situational needs. hope we are up by 6< runs to give Kenley some rest!

secondly, if he was going to pitch in this series, I would have liked him throw 70% knuckle curve, not messing with his fastball which did him in.

It was Walker Buehler or Brandon McCarthy for me, but I understood Stripling being the long-man option. I just never felt good about it. However, I agree with you that he should be deploying his knuckle curve ball more instead of, like I said, throwing batting-practice fastballs out there to the Cubs' hitters.

I really think Walker Buehler needs to prove himself at AAA. his quick rise through the minors really did not grasp a full assessment of his status as a pitcher yet. he was killed in the majors due to his lack of control. as of now, how things are playing out, Kershaw/Hill/Maeda/Wood/Ryu with Urias challenging a spot is good enough for me. if we can add Otani, ( aka Ohtani) our rotation is set with still having McCarthy and Kazmir on the payroll.

Morrow Pitched

Morrow pitched the 8th inning, striking out 1 batter. He should be available tomorrow, but if the series extends, he probably won't be available for Game 5 on Thursday.

What an experience.

Cubs fans began leaving for the exits early too evrn though a good chunk stayed.

Told you I think Joc will clutch. Big double. Scored. More productive than Granderson has been in a month.

Andre completely shutting me up. In the park, we didn’t know that was a HR right away. LMAO!

Last,
Just lol at Stripling having a roster spot. The fans that stayed actuslly thought they were gonna rally.

He needs to be packaged this winter.

Buehler's Readiness

I don't necessarily disagree. While he was being touched up a bit in the majors towards the end of the regular season, I felt most of his surrendered hits were a bit unfortunate and could have been prevented if he approached situations differently. I'm not saying he's ready to start an MLB game, but his stuff is wicked to the point of being close to Morrow and Jansen's level.

Likewise, I think he's close to being Major League ready if he fine-tunes some things. Admittedly, he needs a bit more seasoning and instruction, but as a luxury relief pitcher, I think he's better than either Stripling or Baez for a postseason roster spot. As a long-man option, probably not, but I'm confident in him enough to say that he would have pitched better tonight than Stripling did.

We'll have to answer some questions in the off-season about our starting rotation, but I'll hold off until after the postseason.

Been thinking more about Puig... I think I posted a year or 2 ago that this team wouldn't go anywhere unless it had an identity... That as great as Kershaw was, he was his own thing and didn't provide that...
god help me, I think our identity comes from Puig... I hope he, Turner and Bellinger retire Dodgers...

I watch these guys starting to do the tongue thing and the litte dance at the plate when the ball comes low and inside... And the hand thing around the bases... He's giving this team the looseness, and at the same time, focus this team needs to win it all.

Still don't believe it but it's fun to watch... He's even getting Baez into it...

Stupid... Maybe. Immature... Definitely. But effective, exciting, and fun to watch.

Tempting Fate

With all due respect to the Baseball Gods, I'll take my chances with full rest in a series sweep of the NLCS over playing a Game 7.

Expectations from Ethier and Granderson

Glad you had fun at Wrigley Field.

I'm certainly surprised Joc has come up big in less opportunities than Granderson has been afforded. I actually expected Curtis to outperform Joc moving forward after we acquired the older vet. Granderson hasn't even met modest expectations at this point.

Hey, even I begrudgingly acknowledged that Ethier was one of our best remaining options before the NLCS began. I just didn't like having so many question marks in today's lineup.

Concur about looking to deal Stripling in a trade package this off-season.

Grandal Gets Call for Game 4

Ranma wrote:Barnes's production has been lacking throughout the NLCS so far, but he hasn't actually had bad at-bats, for the most part. I'm glad he's still in there, especially since he handled Darvish so well in their last outing together. If Austin continues to struggle at the plate, I would give Yasmani a shot the next time Kershaw takes the mound. I'm not sure if Grandal has a good rapport with Wood, but I suspect Barnes does.

Wonder if Yas is actually getting the call because of this.

Austin has been doing fine, so the switch back makes me wonder what Dave’s motivations are and it gives me concern.

Pondering Game 4's Lineup

I've actually been wanting to give Grandal a look and Barnes a bit of a break. My only concern is who Wood prefers to have receive him. With Barnes not providing much production in this series despite having good at-bats, I preferred to give Austin a breather to collect himself and watch from the sidelines a little.

However, with the right-handed Arrieta set to face us in the next game, I'm fine with the lineup we rolled out today with the exceptions of swapping Barnes for Grandal at C and Utley for Barnes at 2B. Utley looked overmatched in most, if not all, of his plate appearnces so far. Austin also has a favorable split against right-handers so he should be an upgrade over Chase at the keystone position in the infield.

Now with Kershaw's less-than-sterling outing the last time Barnes handled him, I'm pushing for Grandal to handle catching duties the next time Clayton takes the mound. Maybe it won't make a difference but I want our ace to be at his best and he's most comfortable with Yasmani despite my misgivings.
