Corey Coming Up Empty
Man, Watson made a good pitch that resulted in a grounder at Seager who couldn't come up with it. It was hit hard but Seager was there. Corey is a fine shortstop but his height looked to be a disadvantage there and now he misses another grounder at SS. This is why Manny Machado is my top target in free agency for 2018.

I forgot about ****. He would actually be a good option in CF now given his improvements on defense and his cannon for an arm. However, ****'s split against right and left-handers still relegates him to a platoon level player. I'd rather see **** and Joc as platoon options in CF as well as other positions.
Granderson should not be in CF unless it's an emergency. I normally wouldn't mind bring Granderson back for next season to serve a similar role as Chase Utley, but given Roberts' usage of him, it would be better to take that bullet away from him at this point rather than continue to shoot ourselves in the foot.
the problem with platooning Joc and **** is, only one of them has any value coming off the bench when not starting. Joc's career pinch hitting BA is .128.
ehhhhh f it.

Corey is 6-4.
Manny is 6-3.
they are about the same size.

Fair enough but Machado is unquestionably quicker, has better instincts, a stronger arm, and knows how to use his 6-3 frame for that position better than Corey does with his 6-4 one. Machado would have easily come up with at least 1 of the 2 grounders Watson induced that Corey missed and more likely would have corralled both.

Re: 2017 REGULAR SEASON LA Dodgers & international
Ranma,
I made this post after last night's game where I saw Joc came in to LF in the 8th.
Dave had started him in LF and Taylor in CF during our home stand at least once.
After I asked, he was listed in CF for today's game.

Wood's Velocity
I read that Wood operated in the 90-91 mph range in his victory over the Nats last night. While I'm encouraged by his performance possibly indicating that his mechanics are getting better, I'm still concerned with his lowered velocity. Maybe he's holding back to go full tilt in the postseason or that he's still a work in progress, but it seems like he has a tired arm right now.
I'd like to rest him more but him not playing regularly wouldn't help his mechanics, which has been an ongoing issue for him.

Apparently Rich Hill read Alex Verdugo the riot act for oversleeping.

Postseason Decisions to Be Made
Buster Olney, ESPN.com (9/17/17)
Olney: How Can Shohei Otani Make Up $200 Million in Squandered Value?
Hyun-Jin Ryu takes the mound on Sunday: The Dodgers lefty is still under consideration, theoretically, to be part of the team’s postseason rotation. But strong outings from Yu Darvish, Alex Wood and Rich Hill in recent days may have effectively cemented the No. 2, 3 and 4 spots behind Clayton Kershaw. In eight starts since July 24, Ryu has a 2.60 ERA, with just four homers allowed in 45 innings. Other teams checked on Ryu’s availability before the trade deadline, but the Dodgers liked how he is throwing and the depth he provides.
Dodgers' lineup decisions: Outside of Clayton Kershaw, the Dodgers’ depth is its greatest weapon over the course of the long season. But because of the array of choices, the team’s front office now has some decisions to sort through before the start of the postseason, most notably in the team’s lineup against right-handed pitchers.
1. Should Curtis Granderson or Andre Ethier start in left field?
2. Should the Dodgers use Chase Utley or Logan Forsythe at second base?

Re: 2017 REGULAR SEASON LA Dodgers & international
Dave trusted Ross to get through the heart of the heart of the order and he couldn't do it.
I told myself I wouldn't get worked up over this game sibce we won the series but seeing that we were ahead and have tons of players at our disposal, this was annoying.

Re: 2017 REGULAR SEASON LA Dodgers & international
what the hell?
Dave pulls Ryu with two outs in the 5th and gives him no chance to win the game which he gave up only 3 hits at that time, and leaves Stripling in in the 6th with no outs and two runners on base to give up that three run jack to Zimmerman?
F U Dave. I used to be your fan, but you are no better than Don Mattingly. F U. just F off. I hope you get fired.

Ryu and Stripling
I didn't want to jinx Ryu but I was going to say that he was pitching well not only in this game, but for the past few. He's been more reliable than Wood of late. Having said that, he was predictable a couple of times before the 5th inning, but walking the 2 batters in the 5th inning with the same high outside fastball showed he was not going to get out of the inning without giving up a run.
Ryu was doing an excellent job of nibbling the corners for most of the night, but that high outside fastball consistently hit the same spot to right-handed batters throughout the game: easily off the plate. I don't blame Roberts for giving him the hook, to be honest.
The ESPN announcers were saying how Roberts has trust in Stripling and I thought to myself, "Well, he has trust in Baez as well." Stripling is a decent option, but he was scared to hit the zone against the opposing batters. He was executing his pitches except for that Zimmerman home run but they were usually out of the zone trying to get the Nationals to bite, which they didn't. Grandal's predictable call of a high fastball on the 0-2 count on Werth's just-foul ball was just a bad call. Werth knew that was coming.
Now Buehler is in the game. Good to see the kid get more opportunities to showcase himself.

I have always liked Stripling and his knuckle curve, but let's face it, he was never going to make the playoff roster and if he did, something is very wrong. Alex Wood and Maeda are the long man options and much better ones at that. this game is semi-meaningless after winning the first two of the series. if Dave had any thoughts of having Ryu be the 4th post season starter, you leave him in to make that last out, or let him prove himself out of the rotation. it makes no sense to pull the guy who got you there, against Strasburg no less, just to give a vote of confidence to the lesser player just the very next inning after pulling a rug under your starter.
Dave pulled some BS tonight. Tommy Lasorda would have never done this. Tommy keeps his starters through 5th when that guy got you there in a 1-0 game in the 5th. this is unforgivable mistake of managing.
