Dodgers Farm System Rankings and Corey Seager Video
Jim Callis, MLB.com (8/14/15)
Red Sox Head List of Top 10 Minor League Systems
2. Los Angeles Dodgers
Preseason Top 10: No. 6
Prospects on Top 100 list: 5
In shortstop Corey Seager (No. 2) and left-hander Julio Urias (No. 5), the Dodgers have the best hitting/pitching prospect combo in the game. Their system runs deeper than that duo, though. as right-handers Jose DeLeon (No. 28) and Grant Holmes (No. 66) showcase swing-and-miss stuff. Adding second baseman Jose Peraza (No. 29) in the 13-player trade with the Braves and Marlins in July was a nice bonus, and Los Angeles also spent more than any club on the 2015 international market, securing Cuban right-hander Yadier Alvarez for $16 million and Dominican outfielder Starling Heredia for $2.6 million.

Chase Utley and Alejandro De Aza
Unless the organization feels that Jose Peraza needs more refinement and consistent playing time for his development, which is quite plausible, I don't understand why we've apparently been pursuing Chase Utley and now Alejandro De Aza. This just seems like an Alberto Callapso type of acquisition. At least De Aza has speed but Peralta wasn't really given a chance with his brief stint in the show and provides pretty much the same things as De Aza.
My question really is why even bother wasting the effort and assets? Is this what Ned Colletti is asking for in his role as senior adviser?

why are we looking at Utley anyway?
I dont understand this move. It's kinda late to be moving pieces back and forth.

Re: 2015 Prospects and Trade Discussion
this is lame.
if you're going to do a deal this big, go get me some relievers that can shut down an inning.
we don't need a 2B to cover for Rollins.

Pending Price Paid in Prospects
I'm a little worried about the prospects to be handed over. Like I said before, I'd rather give the opportunity to Jose Peraza or just stick with **** Hernandez at 2B. If the prospects are negligible, I'm fine with having Utley aboard, but I agree that relief pitching is a bigger concern.
Having said that, while I was disappointed in missing out on Jake McGee to boost our bullpen, I'm okay with our relief corps personnel, for the most part. It's just the usage of the particular relief pitchers, which points more towards Don Mattingly's decision-making.
Unless we were trading one of our extra outfielders and/or Alexander Guerrero for a relief pitcher, I don't see the point in making any moves. Giving up assets for Utley seems like a waste of resources to me.

Shades of Colletti
Okay. Now I just don't like this move. Not because I'm a big fan of Darnell Sweeney's or anything. It's that this is just like when Colletti traded Jesmuel Valentin and Victor Arano for pitcher Roberto Hernandez and I hated that deal. Like Valentin, Sweeney was a top-20 Dodgers prospect when he was traded for a rental and we still have another prospect going the other way.
I'd like to think that we could have packaged Sweeney in a deal for a more worthwhile player. Sweeney looks like an all-bat, no-field player but he still had value. Now I'm afraid of possibly losing Zach Lee or Joe Wieland. It also sounds like the Dodgers are getting more money ($4 million instead of $2 million) to part with a better prospect, which goes against their normal behavior.
What exactly is wrong with giving Jose Peraza a chance, anyway? I guess the acquisition of Peraza made Sweeney expendable and Peraza now the primary focus at 2B in AAA. Still, the price paid for Utley seems high to me.

Everything you said is spot on.

check out Mark Saxon's twitter on this deal. Going in on some Dodger fans saying that the Dodgers actually want Joc to hit the ball. Says Utley will play all over after Kendrick returns.
too many tweets for me to pull out myself.

Re: 2015 Prospects and Trade Discussion
steep price, but I don't hate it and here is why.
Sweeney became expandable the moment we landed Peraza. our IF prospects are now Peraza and Seager, with Turner and **** already on the 25 men roster to aid Gonzo. our minor league coaches, scouts, and coordinators now have seen Peraza and Sweeney together side by side and you have to assume that Peraza has won the evaluation battle between them.
Utley has been hitting .480+ BA since the allstar, coming back from his last stint on the DL. I think he has enough left in the tank to make a push for us. he also has team option for the next 3 years, I believe. he may cost 15 million a year but hell we are throwing money around like its nothing anyway, he could be an ideal, veteran presence we can have as an ultimate utility man for the next few years, if we wanted to.
even though the deal so far has said the trade is for Utley only, we still may have other pieces lurking in the dark. maybe we can gain a pick, or an older, lesser prospect who maybe more major league ready to help our bullpen right now.
my personal, and biggest concern is about just who the other prospect we are giving up on. I sure hope Sweeney is the main piece and nothing more of value are added.

Done Deal
Richy might not be ranked as highly as Sweeney, but I anticipated him to be the more useful player to the organization. I'm not necessarily heartbroken at the loss of Richy but giving up both top-30 ranked organizational prospects per MLB.com is a high price to pay for a rental. Yeah, we have the option of bringing Utley back but that seems like an expensive backup plan in case we lose Kendrick beyond this season.

Re: 2015 Prospects and Trade Discussion
Looks like Utley's option only vests if he has 500 PA and he wont reach that this year.
Looks like we're going to be flexible with how we deal with him aka he's not going to be automatically expensive unless we want him to be.
Please get here soon. His bat will help in Houston.

Chase Utley Digs Dodger Stadium
It's not saying much playing for the rebuilding Phillies, but Sweeney is now technically good enough to play for a major league ballclub. Hopefully, the Long Beach native and UCLA alumn will quickly find his comfort zone back at Chavez Ravine.

I don't think Chase's value is simply on his past glory and his brand name sake, but rather a leadership quality to resuscitate the slumping locker room.

Re: 2015 Prospects and Trade Discussion
and he's been killing the ball since the ASB.
He's still not a bad defender either.
I just don't see where he fits if Howie is back. A bench/ utility guy? A guy that is always giving Turner or Howie a rest because he's too good to not be in the line up?

Fitting in Dodgers' Clubhouse
I definitely think he's a welcomed addition to the locker room with his leadership and personality, so that is a plus. I've seen suggestions of Utley playing 3B, 1B, and maybe even the outfield if and when Kendrick comes back. Despite Rollins' enthusiasm of playing with his long-time double-play partner, I remain concerned about his defense.
At least the silver lining is that he basically replaces Callaspo on the roster and I do think that the Dodgers did want to keep him away from San Francisco.
