Not a Trayce of Hitting Prowess

Post#241 » by Ranma » Sat Apr 9, 2016 9:33 pm

Trayce Thompson swings meekly for the strikeout. Not showing much in his brother's hometown.

Update: A.J. Ellis proceeds to go down swinging as well as the Dodgers leave the bases loaded for the 2nd time in 3 innings.

Anybody have any idea why we've taken at minimum 3 ABs away from Corey Seager today by not playing him?

Is he hurt?

Pure Speculation on My Part

Maybe not wanting to have Seager play defense on a wet infield played a part into giving Culberson an opportunity. Kershaw on the mound figures to be a pitcher's duel with Bumgarner his opponent. I haven't heard anything about Seager ailing.

Update: And Charlie Culberson lines a bullet past 3B for a leadoff double to start the 4th inning.

Another Wasted Opportunity

Post#246 » by Ranma » Sat Apr 9, 2016 9:55 pm

We leave more men on-base in scoring position. This time wasting a Culberson leadoff double. Timely hitting apparently still needs to be worked on for this ballclub.

No, I haven't but I haven't been paying attention to the radar gun, to be honest. Do you think the rain delay may have kept his arm from being fully loose? I'll pay more attention to the radar gun this game. I tend to take things for granted with Clayton K.

Another Gopher Ball Given Up by Kershaw

Post#251 » by Ranma » Sat Apr 9, 2016 10:16 pm

Ugh. Bumgarner has struck out 7 Dodgers today operating at 90-91 mph fastball velocity from what I've seen so far while Kershaw has only struck out 3 Giants and given up 2 homeruns in this contest with a peak fastball at 92 mph.

Culberson makes a fine defensive play on a shot up the middle past Kershaw for the out.

Update: Kershaw gets his 4th strikeout to end the 5th inning.

Another Leadoff Double Down the 3B Line for Dodgers

Post#252 » by Ranma » Sat Apr 9, 2016 10:22 pm

Now Thompson shuts me up with a leadoff double to start the top of the 6th inning. We better bring him home for the score this time. Dodgers are currently 1-10 with runners in scoring position in this game. Yikes!

Update: A.J. Ellis entered the game with an 18% strikeout rate but has struck out twice today. Dodgers continue to struggle with runners in scoring position now going 1-13 in such circumstances today.

Captain K Looking Mortal Today

Post#253 » by Ranma » Sat Apr 9, 2016 10:35 pm

Geez. Kershaw almost gave up his 3rd homer before the ball died at the warning track. He doesn't look overly sharp today. I wonder if the early questionable calls by the umpire forced his hand to make uncomfortable adjustments for him. Fortunately, a Kershaw who isn't on top of his game is still better than most. Will that be good enough today? Not with our offense's performance thus far.

Update: Seriously, Clayton just missed giving up yet another homer. This time with a long flyout by Belt.

Bochy makes Dave waste Seager by putting him on.

Culberson has to get it done.

Charlie Culberson moves to left field and promptly saves Clayton Kershaw's bacon with that spectacular diving catch to end the 8th inning.
