When It Rains, It Pours

Post#301 » by Ranma » Tue Sep 1, 2015 3:51 am

The homeplate umpire is just trolling Joc. That called 3rd strike on the 2-2 pitch was outside the strike zone. He's not going to get that call as a rookie, especially in light of his struggles. It sucks because that just further hampers his efforts toward revitalization.

A-Gon shoulda made that play. Almost threw my computer out the window.

Utley was way too far up the middle for that and the ball was too softly hit for him to break to first.
Even if he wasn't going to get an out, A-Gon getting the ball would have this game 2-1 and not 3-1.

Asking Utley to make that play given where they were playing Byrd isn't fair to me.

Both their splits suggest that they're tougher against lefties than righties.
It was a mistake for us to pile up lefties against both of them…i dunno if it was Donnie's call or Friedman's. But it was foolish to suggest that just throwing lefties out there would get it done.

I only needed 3 outs from Arrieta to see we were in for the same type of night we had with Fiers

huh I guess I read that backwards. just checked back with both BF and FG and yeah I read that wrong.

The thing is…

That's just us…the common fan doing a quick sweep of ESPN, BF and FG.

How the hell did our organization/ manager miss that? We're supposed to be the best at that without new FO.

Im sure the FO didn't miss that, but Im 100% sure the Potato did. at the end of the day, it is the front office can set up the 25 men active roster but it is the field manager who fills out the lineup card an hour before the first pitch everyday. this is the reason why Billy Beane fired Art Howe and ended up promoting a FO yes man Macha.

A-Gon Lives Up to Nickname; Ethier Gets In on the Act

Post#308 » by Ranma » Tue Sep 1, 2015 4:23 am

Adrian's 25th homerun came at a pretty good time in tying up the game. Andre gets in on the act by sending one out with his solo shot to give us the lead.

In more good news. The Giants acquired Alejandro De Aza instead of the Dodgers. I was scared since Rosenthal tweeted earlier that the Dodgers were looking to acquire an OF tonight. Hopefully, I'm right in the call and De Aza doesn't come back to bite us in the butt, but I'd rather stick with our guys and go with internal options whenever possible at this point.

Edit: Nevermind. We just got Justin Ruggiano from the Mariners. He also played previously for the Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins, and Chicago Cubs.

Avilan as Jansen's Set-Up Man

I know Jim Johnson has seniority and pretty good stuff (whenever he harnesses it), but I'm liking Molly's suggestion even as I admit that it's a small sample size.

LOL I knew the moment Mattingly brought in SVS the Gnats were gonna bring in a rightie immediately and Carl would have no chance in hell following Scott.

at least he is bringing Jensen in to give us a chance to win it at the bottom of the 9th.

Warpath on the Basepaths

Post#311 » by Ranma » Tue Sep 1, 2015 5:21 am

For a guy with a lot of wear on his tires, Chase is a baserunning fool. I disagree with Vin: Aoki would have gotten him out at 2B if he had a better arm, Utley's hit to lead off the 8th was officially scored a double. Alas, the Dodgers strand him at 3B with only 1 out.

Im not a small ball guy, but the right move I was screaming at the TV from top of my lungs to my wife's delight/hell was to bring in Peraza to bunt Chase home rather than having SVS take over for Ethier and inevitably face a rightie to replace the leftie on the mound.

LOL why bring in pinch runner and sacrifice? we could have just easily bunt over grandal. I was jumping up and down hoping we steal the second THEN bunt him over to third.

Mixing Things Up

Post#314 » by Ranma » Tue Sep 1, 2015 5:38 am

I like small-ball as long as it's mixed into a strategy that's varied and changes things up so that you don't become predictable. I'm exasperated at Mattingly's ho-hum approach. He certainly doesn't seem to be outsmarting his counter in the other dugout. I like a more proactive mentality instead of the reactive one. If the opposition can count on us to do the same things over and over again, then we're at a disadvantage.

Pederson lays down a good bunt to move over Peraza to 2B after pinch-running for Grandal even if it is an inning late.

so... we forego the easier steal of the second and bunt him over but we steal the third which is WAAAAAAAY harder. Donny Potato and his deep fried logic. gotta **** love his illogical methods.

It's funny. I just harped on Mattingly for being too predictable only for him to take the unpredictably harder path of having Peraza steal 3B after being moved over on the bunt.

Another Runner Stranded at 3B

Post#318 » by Ranma » Tue Sep 1, 2015 5:51 am

Geez, man. Rollins swings at Ball 4 to end the inning after Ellis does the same thing in the at-bat prior, once again, leaving a runner stranded on 3B with only 1 out. At least Peraza stays in the game in CF.

OMG i was just saying after two strikes and no ball, that AJ needed to call a slider down and out and not a strike, and he called a down and in that ended up beaning the guy..... AJ is not a major league level catcher. if it wasn't for Kershaw's loyalty, he is just another Chad Krueter
