BTW, kudos to Rich Hill.

he went 5 innings while getting 9Ks, no walks, and only gave up 5 hits, with 1 earned run.

I'm focused on being October ready.

I've seen a number of 100 win teams not get it done in my own lifetime:
2001 Mariners
2004 Cards
2011 Phillies

Theres more from my lifetime but those actually stick out to me.

Report says we are open tp dealing Morrow or Romo for a lefty reliever.

Romo, sure.
Morrow? Not as interested.

Ryu Unlikely to Be Dodger Beyond 2018

Post#586 » by Ranma » Tue Jul 18, 2017 12:17 am

Neddy wrote:we just need to throw in a right handed top of the rotation type starter into this mix, and a dominant lefty relief pitcher going into the playoffs.

what do you guys think about converting Ryu into a lefty setup man for Jansen? we are not trading him. his contract is too team friendly, and his appeal to the korean community in LA is too great to let go. every time I go to watch the games in LA, if Ryu is pitching, I always see a mob of koreans in the stadium rocking Ryu's jerseys. the radio korea broadcasters in the loge seating area doesn't seem to have anyone unless Ryu is pitching.

in fact, we should make a trade for a top notch righty to join that list, and say, we get (completely hypothetical for this argument of starters getting converted to relievers) Archer from the Rays for Verdugo+Alvarez+Willie, then we can rock Kershaw/Wood/Archer/Hill/McCarthy as the 5 men rotation, and relegate both Ryu and Maeda as the set up/long relief tandem before Baez and Jansen are there to close games. in fact, the tandem of Ryu and Maeda will surpass Baez in terms of talent.

I agree that a starting RHP and relieving LHP are our primary targets this trade deadline with Sonny Gray and Brad Hand my preferred targets right now. I'd place a slightly higher priority on Hand but he's a popular target and may prove to be cost-prohibitive while I think the Dodgers have a good chance of actually acquiring Gray despite the team not being listed among his suitors in recent reporting.

I'm sorry, Neddy. I still don't see Hyun-Jin Ryu with the organization beyond next season. I like the idea of having him and Maeda as a bullpen duo, but I think we're better off with an external option. Plus, one of them may need to fill in for an injured pitcher in the starting rotation even though both look like better performers as relievers.

I'd still like to deal Ryu maybe to a team like the Mariners in order to capitalize on his Pacific-Rim popularity in the northwest but he's unlikely to get a significant return right now. I just don't have much faith in him as a reliable option for whatever we need of him despite his glimpses of good showings.

Mulling Dealing Morrow?

Morrow/Ryu/Maeda would make a great bullpen pieces come playoffs. these internal options may be better than what we can get in the trade market.

I agree that Morrow needs to be utilized more but maybe Honeycutt and the coaching staff see something in limiting his usage and thus exposure of his weaknesses. In any case, I agree that it's nonsensical that the front office is debating between getting rid of Romo and Morrow. I'd rather the team just eat the rest of Romo's $3-million deal than lose Morrow.

I thought we're trying to improve our bullpen, not diminish it by considering keeping Romo over Morrow. That's just ridiculous.

^Morrow is probably the price teams are asking to take on Romo's $. in fact, I bet if this deal does go through and they are sent as a package to anywhere, Romo will immediately get designated for an assignment.

Nickel and Diming

Post#589 » by Ranma » Tue Jul 18, 2017 2:24 am

With the fans still dealing with the fiasco of the Dodgers selling the television broadcast rights, I can't say that I'm looking forward to the buyer of the field's naming rights. I understand it's a business but sports should be a haven of escape from these marketing realities. I hate corporate logos on jerseys, so I'm a traditionalist.

is Dave running out Kershaw there for the 7th with nearly 100 pitch counts already? we have 68 more games to play before we get to play our first playoff game this season. :banghead:

about to go 65-29.

that leaves 68 games left, and if we go 35-33, we win 100 games. we are more likely to go 45-23. I think we are gonna get past 105, and probably into 110 range when it is all said and done, especially now that we are willing to eat into the prospects a bit to gain short term improvements for this season.

Kershaw leading the league in innings pitched... is the part I do not like. we have got to save his arm for the post season which we failed to do every freaking year we were in the playoffs.
