I want to be mad at Howie but it's April.

He'll pick it up.

That's a fair judgment for Howie. I just happen to be prejudiced against him given his lack of defense and my bitterness over the trade that shan't be named.

Klay's Brother Scrambling in the Outfield

Post#704 » by Ranma » Sun Apr 24, 2016 9:38 pm

Speaking of bad defense, Trayce Thompson misplays a fly ball in LF that should have ended the inning, which the official scorer counted as a double and earned run against Wood. Like I've said, Trayce's reputation as a good defensive player is undeserved.

Edit: We get screwed again by the shift, which adds another earned run to his totals today. No wonder Kershaw doesn't like the shift...ugh...Kendrick flubs a groundball at 3B, which is also ruled a hit and adds yet another undeserved run to Wood's statistics. The nightmare continues.

Dee Gordon better heat up quickly btw...since you mentioned that trade.

Not sure he's going to be better than Utley at all this year.

not trying to defend him as he should have caught that anyway, but when I was a kid, I always found LF to be the hardest position to play in the outfield.(in fact I hardly ever left the infield) the center field can see the ball from coming off the bat, RF at least in younger leagues don't have enough power lefties to pull it but the LF, man the ball hooks and slices through the air and it's easy to misjudge the flight pattern.

It was such a terrible gaffe, I'm going to assume the wind really did beat the ball down that bad.

I've never seen that before...even from **** OFs

I am worried about his defense. he doesn't appear to have the lateral quickness for the 2b, seems out of place on 3b, looks rather good in the LF but he have a traffic jam over there.

now the elephant in the room is... will Alex Wood make it out of the 5th with a lead? I gave up on him consistently getting through 6 innings anymore. he is a fodder ready to be replaced as soon as somebody gets healthy.

Puig Goes Superman in RF

Chase Utley is certainly playing better than Gordon this year. No doubt, but how long can he maintain it for this season given last season's fade (hopefully, all season) and beyond? The trade has more to do with Hatcher's inconsistency, the wasting of Barnes, and, of course, the trading of Heaney (even if he is injured right now). **** is hitting well but his defense still seems shaky with the occasional spectacular play notwithstanding.

Bravo to Yasiel Puig! That incredible catch in RF stopped the bleeding and hopefully allows Wood to collect himself for the rest of the game.

I have always said this about Dee. if he can't get a hit, he can't get on base. he is hitting better than .270 and yet he is below .300 OBP wise. with his total lack of SLG, his OPS is looking like **** right now. it will take him challenging Tony Gwynn's career BA numbers for him to be league average OPS+ player. I just don't see it happening.

Same question I have for Dee.
1 years worth of good defensive metrics.
BABIP inflated BA and doesn't walk.

We'll see.
Agree on Barnes.
Kind of agree on Hatcher.

Indifferent on Howie tbh. Heaney isn't that good (I could go in depth but ZZZZzzz). I just wished we used him for more value in the trade. But I'm assuming these front offices can obviously see what I see in Heaney so maybe we couldnt have fleeced the Angels in a deal. Moreover, I wanted the extra draft pick from Howie. I don't think this team needs him but I'm open to him proving me wrong.

Great bounce back inning from Wood.
He deserved for Dave to throw him back out there to earn a win.

Those defensive gaffes were not his fault.

I'll be damned! Wood just might get to finish the 6th. although this start is not gonna be a quality start... gotta re our relievers before we get to crush Donny's new ballclub!!!! that should be entertaining for sure.

Wood Knocked Out of the Game

Post#718 » by Ranma » Sun Apr 24, 2016 10:15 pm

Geez. Our defense sucks today. Even A-Gon misplayed a ball to have runners at 1B and 3B with nobody out in the 6th inning. Wood can't catch a break.

Update: Good grief! Baez can't field the bunt cleanly, which leads to another run without recording an out.

How can one team play defense this poorly????

It's unbelievable.

What's worse....we all know how the Dodgers play in Colorado.
If we have a big lead, we're not gonna do **** offensively until they hawk us down and tie/ take the lead.

of course.

I can't wait for Ryu... even McCarthy.... hell let's bring up Sam LeCure from AAA if we don't want to give Zach Lee another try-out. currently Zach and Sam are killing it down there and we are apparently using Sam as a starter again.
