how interesting that within minutes of Kershaw leaving the game after just 2 innings, we see that we are now more interested in Yu.

as long as the price makes sense, I like this.

Prospects and trade discussion

Post#746 » by Quake Griffin » Tue Jul 25, 2017 1:56 am

How is Pat Neshek getting all this love?

I dont remember him yielding this much attention as a commodity in recent years.

Anywho.
Matt Kemp.
2014 NLDS Game 2.
Bottom of the 8th.
Think that was Neshek he got over the LF fence to win that game.

he is cheap, that's why. he won't cost a half the price of Hand or Reed. knowing the dude is like 36, never been a guy with dominating stuff, one B level prospect in AA will do.

Erisbel Arruebarrena Still with the Dodgers?!

Post#748 » by Ranma » Tue Jul 25, 2017 2:47 am

How is this loser still with the Dodgers organization? I thought we swallowed his signing bonus and let him go. Did he not find any other takers or blow through the entirety of his money and now willing to work on a minimum deal? Dude better be on his absolute best behavior as I'm not exactly happy investing developmental resources and time in this headcase. He could certainly flash some leather but his bat was weak.

Talk about back from the dead.

And to that last tweet.
I believe Erisbel is a Ned signing with completely different players in international scouting roles for us at the time.

I thought he was done for after starting that brawl...just lol.

Suspended Not Released

Post#751 » by Ranma » Tue Jul 25, 2017 3:24 am

Looks like I was wrong as he was suspended and not released. However, he was given a lengthy suspension for the 2nd time during his brief minor league career. Also, it looks like we signed him for "only" $25 milllion with money due in 2017 and 2018, although I'm guessing he's had to return a big chunk of that money ($3,814,207) due to missing so many games.

Eric Stephen, TrueBlueLA.com (5/4/16)
"We have suspended Erisbel Arruebarrena for the remainder of the season for his repeated failure to comply with the terms of his contract," said Gabe Kapler, the Dodgers' director of player development.
...

The club also suspended Arruebarrena in May 2015 for the same reason, though after appealing to the commissioner's office his suspension was reduced to just 30 games.

The Dodgers signed the Cuban shortstop to a five-year, $25 million contract before the 2014 season, and he appeared in 22 major league games that season, going 8-for-41 (.195/.224/.220).

Arruebarrena, who is off the Dodgers' 40-man roster, is due $4 million this season. If his suspension holds up, he would lose roughly $3,322,404. Arruebarrena is due $4 million in 2017, and $5 million in 2018.

MLB.com's 2017 Mid-Term Top 100 Rankings

Post#752 » by Ranma » Tue Jul 25, 2017 4:07 am

6 Dodgers are in the updated MLB.com top 100 rankings with Buehler at 13th overall, Verdugo 28th, Alvarez 51st, Calhoun 71st, Kendall 86th, and Diaz 89th. Alex Verdugo surpassed Blake Rutherford in the rankings but I still like Rutherford better.

Other sidenotes include J.P. Crawford with a precipitous drop from being on the verge of becoming the top overall prospect to 64th overall. Wow! Jose De Leon is barely holding on in the top 100 at 99th overall.

Also, it's nice to see Mitchell White (7th) and Keibert Ruiz (8th) among the top 10 Dodgers prospects in the revised rankings for 2017. At the same time, both Gavin Lux (11th) and Jordan Sheffield (12th) fell outside of the top 10. Here is the new order:

  1. Walker Buehler
  2. Alex Verdugo
  3. Yadier Alvarez
  4. Willie Calhoun
  5. Jeren Kendall
  6. Yusniel Diaz
  7. Mitchell White
  8. Keibert Ruiz
  9. Will Smith
  10. Brock Stewart

In terms of trade value, I'd move Kendall all the way up to 2nd on the list with White ahead of Calhoun at 5th 6th overall and Stewart ahead of White at 4th 5th overall at this point. Verdugo would be 3rd on my trade-value list but the most available asset to deal outside of Calhoun.

Interesting to see that Padres-Royals deal then to see they want Verdugo for Hand.

before I read Quake's post about what AJ Preller is asking for Hand, I came in to say that the Twins somehow robbed the Braves and got not only Jaime Garcia, but also Anthony Recker plus cash for one, single prospect named Huascar Ynoa who has regressed big time of all places, in rookie ball.

this is like trading Nolasco and AJ Ellis to a team desperate to have some pitching to compete for the post season and only getting back a poor man's Gavin Lux. and Gavin Lux is already poor with stats.

Relationships Management

Post#758 » by Ranma » Wed Jul 26, 2017 1:40 am

Buster Olney, ESPN.com (7/25/17)
Andrew Friedman, head of baseball operations for the Dodgers, and Texas GM Jon Daniels

Dating back to the years when Friedman ran the Rays, the two have had a lot of discussions but no deals of significance. They executed just three minor deals.

Friends of both have speculated for years that the negotiation styles of the two are so similar that it probably makes deal-making more difficult, like two brothers using the same strategy in a board game.

This is noteworthy in a week in which the Rangers are listening to offers for Yu Darvish leading up to the trade deadline, and the Dodgers’ interest in adding a starting pitcher could be nudged by sudden uncertainty about Clayton Kershaw. Daniels has a player whom Friedman could certainly use in the weeks ahead.

There is an X factor. Farhan Zaidi is the Dodgers’ general manager, working under Friedman, and he is the person dealing head-to-head with Daniels. It could well be that the Dodgers don’t finish a trade for Darvish because they’re not interested in paying the asking price.
...

The Dodgers and the Athletics

About a decade passed without a deal between these two longstanding franchises, from 2005 and 2015, but that has changed since Friedman -- and Zaidi, who used to work for Beane -- took over the Dodgers. They’ve made five trades over the past three years, including the big deal of Rich Hill and Josh Reddick last summer. If the Dodgers have interest in trading for Gray, that history could serve as a platform for conversations.

Would you do Verdugo and Willie for Darvish?

Guessing my rule of thumb is if you say "yes" without hesitation, it's probably a deal Texas wouldn't do.

I have been thinking about this all day, and at least my answer is... no.

and no Texas won't do that deal either. they will ask one of Buehler and Alvarez, plus Alex as the starting point.
