man what an acting job!

Ryu with runners on 1st and 3rd with nobody out and on 2-2 count after going up 0-2, he looked like he was about to unleash everything he's got with a high heater, then throws a change up above the zone for an easy strike out.

and PUIG! that flyball was deep enough but the Padres don't even try.

now 2 outs.
ehhhhh f it.

Postseason Rotation Derby

Post#884 » by Ranma » Sun Aug 13, 2017 2:59 am

Neddy wrote:it seems to me, Dave Roberts is auditioning the 4th starter between Hill, Ryu, and Maeda. each guy goes up, and looks like they are pitching the game 7 of the WS. I bet Rich shaking it off and taking the first base, had something to do with that pressure.

Darvish and Wood are battling for the 2nd spot in the postseason rotation after a healthy Kershaw, of course, but I have to think Yu has the inside track. It's still a little early to count anyone out, but I think Maeda is out of the running. The 4th spot is between Hill and Ryu right now and I still give the advantage to Rich.

Tonight's performance hasn't helped Hyun-Jin's cause but he's still in the running for now.

More Umpire Incompetence

Post#886 » by Ranma » Sun Aug 13, 2017 5:12 am

Dodgers get the win but not before a new umpire does his part to get in the way of play on the field.

Get everyone rest

Pitching as well.

We are not rushing kershaw back, and when he gets back, why not use a 6 man rotation

Keep giving all the position players rest. See if Gonzalez has anything (don't think he does)

Kershaw is about 8 days away from being out for a month.
That's about 6 starts and anywhere from 36-42 innings pitched if we're imagining he averages somewhere between 6 to 7 IP in those starts.

I think we're ready to trot him out. Rosters will expand shortly and if we don't do the 6 man rotation thing for the whole time he is back, we can certainly throw it in once or twice to give him a break.

I like our rotation and I literally hope we sweep or are up 2-1 if there's a Game 4 of the NLDS because even though I like our rotation, I still have a feeling that if we are down 1-2 going into Game 4, the logic will be "go out using your best pitcher" and Kershaw will start.
All the other talk is just tough talk. My bet is we go out with Kershaw on the mound before Rich Hill or Alex Wood if we are facing elimination.

We need to protect ourselves from ourselves and win 2 of the first 3 to protect his arm.

Deja Vu All Over Again

TKainZero wrote:So this whole first batter of the game thing is real with darvish

Indeed it is. He gave up a home run on his first pitch in Chavez Ravine as a Dodger, then gave up another in the 4th inning. His teammates are keeping him in the game.

Darvish Throwing Batting Practice Tonight

Post#897 » by Ranma » Thu Aug 17, 2017 3:48 am

Tonight shows why I favored pursuing Sonny Gray over Yu Darvish at the deadline despite the fact that the latter has better stuff and physical build. His inconsistency and vulnerability to bad stretches within games keeps him from being a reliable #2 starter in the postseason or regular season, for that matter.

His velocity and command have been off the entire game where he's constantly missing the location of where his catcher is setting up. He just got his 1st strikeout of the game in the 6th inning, then ended it with his 2nd.
