I'm still willing to be patient with him. He hasn't been in the same form previously even before joining the Dodgers. We can't expect him to be Brad Hand or Zach Britton, but I think he provides at least a slightly better option than what we had before. I'd like to see more out of him, obviously, but I want to give him more time for the coaches to work with him.

Dodgers' 2 Standout Rookies
Connor Byrne, MLBTradeRumors.com (8/17/17)
The Top 10 Rookies Of 2017
2.) Cody Bellinger, 1B/OF, Dodgers: Just as Judge has lapped the AL rookie field, Bellinger has emerged as the Secretariat of the NL race. Bellinger hasn’t quite matched his AL counterpart’s production, but the numbers have still been absolutely remarkable – especially considering he just turned 22 last month and didn’t debut until the end of April. The lefty-swinging Dodger has belted nearly as many homers as Judge (34) in 90 fewer PAs (412), posted a .277/.357/.621 line and logged the majors’ third-best ISO (.343, behind only Joey Votto and Giancarlo Stanton). In the process, Bellinger has given the dream team known as the Dodgers yet another star to build around for the long haul. He’s a lock to follow teammate Corey Seager as the club’s second consecutive NL ROY winner.
4.) Austin Barnes, C/2B, Dodgers: The Dodgers are 85-34, so it’s not particularly surprising that they’re loaded with outstanding players. Barnes has flown under the radar, though – perhaps because he’s a 27-year-old rookie who has only amassed 180 PAs this season (after logging 37 apiece in the prior two seasons). The former Marlins prospect has taken advantage of his limited playing time, however, having hit a marvelous .293/.411/.513 with six homers and a .220 ISO. Barnes has combined that quality power with elite-level plate discipline, evidenced primarily by the fact that he has nearly as many walks (27) as strikeouts (30). League-average walk and strikeout rates sit at 8.5 percent and 21.6 percent, respectively, and Barnes is comfortably above the mean in each category (15.0 and 16.7). He also happens to own an even higher xwOBA than Bellinger (.379 to .372). It’s worth pointing out, too, that Baseball Prospectus regards Barnes as one of the majors’ preeminent pitch-framing backstops. The hype may not be there for Barnes, yet he’s clearly among the reasons the Dodgers are able to form Voltron on what seems like a nightly basis.

amazing. we give away 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st, then we immediately score 4 runs on top of the 2nd.
and good to see El Titan hit a double in his first at bat from his season long DL stint. he looked good!

We traded for Curtis Granderson?
For what?
Is he our postseason pinch hitter?

Granderson Arrival

I've been a fan of his but he's obviously in the decline phase of his career. However, he's apparently been hitting well since May. He supposedly has speed and can still handle CF so I'm guessing he'll be getting playing time at the expense of Joc Pederson, who's been struggling despite his recent hits.
Curtis Granderson is a noted clubhouse presence, so he'll also provide some of what Chase Utley gives us. Since it very likely didn't cost us anything of significance, I welcome his addition despite my initial reaction of questioning why we pursued him upon hearing the news.

Re: 2017 REGULAR SEASON LA Dodgers & international
I've said it before...
I am weary of dealing for the hot pitcher or the hot hitter. Mat Latos was hot when we dealt for him. Chase Utley was kinda hot after recovering from ankle surgery with a crazy exit velocity in 2015.
I'd much rather get a Yu Darvish (who was not a hot pitcher) type and hope Honeycutt can fix him than a declining old guy who is hot at the time but whose game can just fall off a cliff.
Fortunately the deal around Latos was enough to justify the risk...just like the outlays for Utley and Granderson are not going to be to the point where I'm going to be protesting that loud.

Kershaw, Utley, Granderson, Turner. We have great character in there.
I'm intentionally leaving A-Gon out because I don't trust him given that we don't need him AND given that he shouldn't be playing nearly everyday.

Unlike the Latos component of the Olivera-Wood trade, Granderson is a welcomed addition. He doesn't cost anything, assuming the PTNL is a really low-level rookie in the minors, and is a rental we don't have to commit to beyond this season. Outside of cash, we got him practically for free and yet he is very likely a better option in the lineup than Pederson right now with Bellinger in CF.
What further appeals to me about Granderson's arrival is that this lessens the need for Ethier even further, whom I don't want on the roster at all. Granderson is being looked at as a hedge against Pederson, Gonzalez, Ethier, or maybe even Forsythe not performing up to par. It pushes the competition level so that the players on the fringe of postseason consideration are motivated to get things going.
Personally, I think Forsythe and Gonzalez are fairly safe. Pederson and Ethier are the ones put on notice with Ethier almost assured of not making the team's postseason roster, which is a big plus for me. Joc better figure things out soon. This also might allow J. Pederson to be sent down to AAA to work on his swing in preparation for the postseason.

So wait...
When we are in NL parks, Granderson will be in CF? Splitting time with Cody at CF?

Re: 2017 REGULAR SEASON LA Dodgers & international
do we have a right handed pinch hitter other than ****? cuz lefties have surely have. Gonzo/Utley/Granderson/Ethier waiting for October, and the only other right handed bench player is Austin.
I think we should consider bringing Farmer back.
