The Sun Setting on A.J. Ellis

Post#323 » by Ranma » Tue Sep 1, 2015 6:01 am

Neddy wrote:OMG i was just saying after two strikes and no ball, that AJ needed to call a slider down and out and not a strike, and he called a down and in that ended up beaning the guy..... AJ is not a major league level catcher. if it wasn't for Kershaw's loyalty, he is just another Chad Krueter

Sadly, I concur. Austin Barnes is probably the better backup backstop at this point and much more versatile. A.J. is more deserving of a spot on the coaching staff than player roster.

At least, we're not the only team stranding runners in this game:

going off the tangent a bit, but......

good for Jon for his success and I am happy for him that it could not happened to a better man. Jon probably doesn't remember me anymore, but way back in the day we had our startup sites linked. he ran the dodger-thoughts, and I ran a small dodger baseball blog called dodgermath. back then I knew he was a English teacher in Echo park and he knew I was a student working on my doctoral. but that was even before Michael Lewis' Moenyball came out. my daoughter was born and I had to focus on my career and ended up killing my own site, and it is probably at least a dozen years since then, but I watched the rise of Jon over the years and even bought a copy of his book. hope he remembers dodgermath site, lol.

Bullpen did fine against Chicago….particularly given Latos and Wood's starts.
They've held serve tonight. I want to win but if they happen to get a run, I can't complain.

That's a great story. I didn't know about Dodger Thoughts until really late. While I was just getting into discussing the Clippers on message boards during my final year of college, it didn't occur to me to look at Dodger sites. Someone at my previous work turned me on to that site.

I'm sorry I missed out on DodgerMath.com(?), but maybe with some more free time, you can bring it back. Thanks for sharing.

all I can say is that I am flattered by your kind words, and glad you didn't see my site!!! LOL it was a lot of reprints of my hero at the time, Bill James, and calculations according to his metrics for our beloved dodgers. by the end of its life it was a lot of idol worshping for Paul DePodesta...

well I gotta see my first patient at 7 in the morning and my old lady is barking at me now... good night fellas, talk to ya'll tomorrow.

On the Brink of Victory

Bases loaded. Nobody out. And Adrian Gonzalez at the plate. Giants go with Yusmeiro Petit in a pitching change.

I stayed up even though I'm in the midwest.

Got a 5:30 flight back to LA and I usually stay up all night when I fly like this so I can knock out on the plane.

Win win for me.
Glad we didn't wink tonight even though sometimes I wished it was over.

Bully for the Bullpen

Even the much maligned (by me) Hatcher went 3 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. Nicasio was the lone goat in the bullpen allowing the tying run in the 8th, but he also got 2 strikeouts in his lone inning of work tonight.

If true, I gotta say that it's pretty cool of Friedman to encourage **** to go back out to the dugout in his banana outfit.

Peraza's Error

Post#337 » by Ranma » Wed Sep 2, 2015 2:55 am

Yeah, rook should stop trying to overdo things. Either one of the outfielders behind him had the easier play. Next time, he better cede to their call-offs.

Duffy then robs Greinke of an RBI hit on that rocket down 3B.

World Class Organization

Post#339 » by Ranma » Wed Sep 2, 2015 3:06 am

I'm still bitter about Fiers' alleged pine tar effort, but Arrieta was dominant against us in his no-no. I think the error ruling on ****'s hard hit was questionable, but Arrieta had a deserving performance. In any case, I like how classy the organization is in not only recognizing the achievement on their opponent's part, but also going out of its way to provide him with mementos from the occasion. Kudos, Dodgers!

Peraza kept getting fooled in scurrying back to 1B on Bumgarner's pitch...twice. He finally scored off A-Gon's single thanks to his speed.

Speaking of defense, at least we no longer have to deal with Hanley Ramirez in our infield. Seriously, I had the thought last night we would have lost the game early instead of winning late if he was still on our team.
