Reading between the lines, however, it now seems likely that Alex Guerrero will move into a hybrid left field/third baseman role in Puig’s absence.
...

Guerrero hit his fifth home run of the season Sunday in just his fourth start of the season. All four starts have come at third base. He is batting .500 through his first 11 games of 2015.

Reading between the lines, expect to see a lot of Alex Guerrero in left field.

oh believe me Carl being on DL is a good thing for us with SVS and Alex getting more at bats. with the way CC was playing defense, we are not losing much on the field either.
ehhhhh f it.

Activity in the Dodgers' Front Office

Post#3 » by Ranma » Thu Apr 30, 2015 3:53 am

I was actually thinking of trades the Dodgers could make in taking advantage of the Josh Hamilton situation by dealing Ethier or Crawford (and maybe some pitching). I wasn't at all thrilled with the prospect of actually keeping Hamilton as I was more contemplating ways to dump the contracts of Crawford and Ethier. I was thinking more of a 3-way as well in getting Elvis Andrus in return or something. As it turns out, the Dodgers' braintrust had the same idea, only better. I'm glad to hear that the front office shares my sensibilities and goes about doing business smarter than I ever could. My blue heaven.

In any case, I stopped contemplating scenarios when I heard that Hamilton was itching to get out of the L.A. area, so for some reason I forgot that I was thinking of 3-way scenarios. Duh. Plus, with Ethier hitting well, as he tends to do in the first half of the season, maybe the team can unload him while his value is higher later on in the season.

Jon Heyman, CBS Sports (4/29/15)
The Dodgers are believed to have discussed both straight deals and three-way scenarios that would have sent Hamilton to Texas but it's apparent that ultimately they couldn't quite pull off any sort of deal that satisfied the Angels. The cash-rich Dodgers' main intention apparently was to pay some money while gathering prospects, not add Hamilton to their talented and crowded outfield mix; so even if a straight deal worked, presumably Hamilton would have gone to the Rangers eventually, anyway.

It seems that the Dodgers were mainly trying to interject themselves into the ongoing trade talks and appear to have had no real intention of ultimately keeping Hamilton. The Dodgers have had an outfield glut for more than a year now (though that's less the case with Matt Kemp gone), and in any case there's no reason to realistically think Hamilton would be any happier 45 miles north of Anaheim, where the Angels play.

of course Ethier is the realistic asset to be traded, and him playing well can help us moving forward. but the one that should go is CC. too bad he isn't good enough to entice anyone even for a fools gold.
ehhhhh f it.
