Roster Flexibility for Big Picture

The trade effectively converts the salary obligation owed to 3 players for 2018 into one for 1 player over 2 seasons in 2018 and 2019. This takes the Dodgers out of danger of dropping 10 spots in the 2019 draft by significantly increasing the likelihood that we'll be below the luxury tax for the 2018 season. Not only that, but it opens up 2 rosters spots and maybe 3 if Kemp is outright waived. However, Friedman & Co. are undoubtedly looking to move Kemp in a package deal to an AL team, which possibly includes sending him along with Grandal and prospects to Baltimore for Machado and/or Britton.
Even if we do nothing further, the trade has the Dodgers firmly poised to be a big spender in next year's highly anticipated crop of free agents. As it stands, there's enough financial flexibility to even add to the current roster even with the projected raises for arbitration-eligible players. Further details and discussion can be found in the Off-Season thread.

Re: Prospects and trade discussion
sad day for me around here. a kid I have watched play high school ball all through out his (high school) career, called it quits rather than playing for the local college, wants to be a fireman after all the local and California fires( plus he's got a G friend now, and wants to move out of his mother's house...). good for him, but I really thought he had the talent to make it if he persevered. 5-10 catcher with high school power, but he had a knack for calling good games, throwing runners out, and had contact, could take a walk. the projection in majors' top ceiling would have been .245/.330/.370 type, somewhat below average hitter with a 0 to 5 HRs a season, but a great game manager just like his hero, Buster **** Posey. the kid even sorta looked like him too.

I am super happy for him, and wish him luck. guys like Matt Murton have become legends for their japanese ballclub's fanbase. Dustin Nippert got picked up by KT as well, so he won't have to retire after being a franchise superstar for DooSan Bears for the last 7 years.
PS-you guys remember Josh Lindblum? his career continues with the Bears of KBO.

man, I really have not been in the mood to follow baseball this spring ( which is very unlike me) since the news of Parkland shooting and since my surgery date has been set for March 21 at OHSU. but I did hear like 2 dozen dodgers came down with the flu and had to be sent home? this is really unfortunate for those who maybe on the bubble but had a puncher's chance to impress the management.

I hear ya.
I’m not over Game 5 of the World Series.
I probably will never get over Game 5.
Not sure how many rings it will take for me to get over it.

Buehler Tipping His Pitches
Just based on the video in the tweet below, Buehler throws his fastball in a normal windup but for breaking balls, he double tabs his glove with the ball in his hand before delivering the pitch.

Isn’t he throwing from the wind up for the fast balls and throwing from the stretch for the breaking balls?

Good point since there was a man on base in each of his stretch deliveries but if he's doube-tapping his glove for breaking balls in a wind-up, I'd be very concerned. I haven't seen pitchers double-tab their gloves before delivering a pitch, which stood out to me, especially since they coincided with his off-speed pitches.

poor Edwin has no chance, his path is blocked by Bellinger on 1st and JT on 3rd. but he is a good prospect for a corner infielder. would not mind if he is packaged by trade deadline to a team that has room for him in the majors as well as us getting that difference maker before the playoffs depending on how injuries play out.
