And as soon as I say that, Chris Taylor with a 2 run bomb.

What a pleasant surprise he has been this season

Puig Needs to Take Another Approach to At-Bats

Post#243 » by Ranma » Sun May 28, 2017 12:54 am

The biased (against Dodgers) Fox telecast mentioned that Puig sees more fastballs in his at-bats than anybody else in MLB but he's missing consistently. Opposing pitchers are easily outsmarting him. Yasiel needs to watch some of his teammates' more measured approach at the plate. We have a lineup full of such hitters right now thanks to Turner Ward, who I know has been working with Puig.

Great.

McCarthy was removed today due to right knee tendinitis.

If it's not one thing, it's another.

When did we get Sweeney back? For Howie?

Good to hear McCarthy won't miss a start and it's just tendinitis.

Bellinger takes Lester deep.

Think I covered everything.

Howie Kendrick Trade

Yeah, we got Sweeney back along with Darin Ruf for Howie Kendrick, but to deal him away for just future considerations indicates to me that his development with the organization must have been really lacking.

It's Clobbering Time for ****

Post#250 » by Ranma » Sun May 28, 2017 9:29 pm

I've been hard on **** Hernandez but dude has been playing well of late. Could be that the emergence of Chris Taylor and Cody Bellinger has everyone else stepping up their game in order to compete for playing time.

Kershaw Not Sharp

Post#251 » by Ranma » Sun May 28, 2017 9:38 pm

Clayton is not pitching well with his approach. It'd be easy to blame his battery partner Austin Barnes, but he's the one shaking off the calls. Kershaw has wasted a lot of opportunities to put guys away and has now given up his 3rd homerun on the day along with his 2nd walk and we're in the 4th inning. Mix in the curveball more, for crying out loud.

Could be that his father is past all those health issues he had last year as well and he is more focused.

Lester takes it on the chin today and Kershaw, surprisingly, is getting creamed as well.

I wonder if he works better with Grandal than Barnes. This is Barnes 2nd time catching him and he had to shake him off and step off a number of times early in the game.

He should be taken out.

Looks like we're angling to get him a win when our best chance to win is going to the pen.

It's one thing for him to have a bulldog mentality, it's another for us to capitulate to anything he wants. This isn't abour a bulldog mentality to me.

Not a fan.

More Bullheaded Than Bulldog

Like I said before, it'd be easy to blame Barnes, but Kershaw seemed stubborn in going to the fastball when the Cubs were aggressive and expecting it in the strike zone early in the count as well as the slider even when it wasn't sharp. Then, after Kershaw left runners on 2B and 3B in the 5th inning with only 1 out, Barnes called a good game plan against the next 2 batters with Josh Fields executing his pitches well to get us out of the jam and inning with 2 strikeouts.

Barnes just went yard to put us up 7-4. While some of the fielding was off, Kershaw was his own worst enemy today IMO.

Good point on Barnes working just fine with the pen.

Alex Wood to the DL for his shoulder.
