A Fair offer for Johan Santana...

Hey I'm a Twins fan...Just wanna gauge his value to you guys...In my eyes there is no way the Twins don't trade him...People have tried to argue that the Twins have no leverage, but I could refute that very quickly if you go there...
I could see something like Matt Kemp, Clayton Kershaw, and Andy LaRoche for Santana...
That's definitely a high price for the best pitcher in the league...Would you guys be willing to pay it...If not what would you say?

We know you can see that because that is your asking price. The question is.....

You basically answered the question.

Since the Dodgers have no power and havent traded for Cabrera (I hope they do) I would take Kemp out of that trade and insert Andre Ethier. So... Andre Ethier, Clayton Kershaw, and Andy LaRoche for Johan Santana.

^Ethier is no Kemp, I doubt they'll consider it. I'd rather do the Kemp,LaRoche, Kershaw deal for Cabrera.

I'm looking at the Randy Johnson trade: 2 of their top young pitching prospects (Fredy Garcia, John Halama) and 1 mlb ready prospect bat (Carlos Guillen). Unit was 35 with 1 Cy (and went on to win 4 of the next 5!)
Johan is 28 and only 1 yr removed from his 2nd Cy. Imo, 2 pitchers, 2 bats is the asking.
Much like Boston with Ellsbury, and NY with Hughes, Kemp has to be the starting point - and if LA (or Bos or NY) says no to that, Minny has to keep shopping.
I think LA has the best prospects though for Min. so they might be able to get away with a 3 player offer if Kemp is in it. Maybe Kemp, DYoung, Elbert (if Kershaw is off limits). Unfortunately for Minny, trading Garza means they need another good starter now and would probably ask for Billingsley (to which LA would say 'hell no').

Thinking abt it from Minn perspective, they need 4 things:
CF (w Hunter gone), Inf, SP and replacement Closer for eventual Nathan departure. LA can offer all that and keep LaRoche and Kershaw in LA.
Kemp OF, Abreu IF, Elbert SP (prospect), Broxton (allows them to deal Nathan for more prospects.
LA (money is no object off-season): Santana trade, sign Kuboda, sign Rowand.
Line-up
Pierre LF
Furcal SS
Rowand CF
Loney 1B
Kent 2B
Ethier RF
Martin C
LaRoche 3B
Rotation
Santana
Penny
Schmidt
Lowe
Billingsly
W/ Kuboda if Schmidt is not ready
Nice!

Id rather keep Kemp and Kershaw. The twins are just asking too much. These prospects are supposed to be the next big thing. Id rather just sign Andruw jones, then package pierre and someone for a solid SP.

If this is a true offer on Bedard:
"The Dodgers have also had talks with the O's, with Matt Kemp, Jonathan Broxton, and Clayton Kershaw coming up. That's certainly worth mulling over." from the Baltimore Sun
then if I'm Minnesota I'm on the phone to the Dodgers immediately. That's their CF, Closer, and future Johan replacement in about 3 yrs (just in time for the new stadium).
With Broxton, they can deal Nathan for an infielder and good SP, which they need now.
Why would LA offer that package up for Bedard when it's definitely a better Santana offer than NY and Bos are putting together. And Torre knows first hand how devastating he is - he killed NY. And pitching in a pitchers park in LA instead of a hitters park like the Dome.....

As a Twins fan I'd like Kemp as the centerpiece to any deal.
I would do Kemp and Kershaw straight up,
maybe throw back a prospect or take on pierre's salary if that's what it takes.
Pierre will not get you anything, his contract makes his trade value negative to anyone ouside New York or Boston.
Would you do say Kemp and Billingsley?
Or what if we threw in Joe Nathan?
Kemp/Kershaw/LaRoche?
Steinbrenner is making an ass of himself in the press whining we won't take Phil Hughes and Melky Cabrera. Melky Cabrera sucks, we don't even want him. Hughes, Kennedy and a minor league outfielder or no deal.

Throw in Broxton since Minny would need a closer and you might have a deal.
Saito in the 8th and Nathan 9th would be game over!

I think a deal of Kemp, Kershaw and Hu would get any Johan deal done...If you want Nathan, the price goes up a good amount...something like Kemp, LaRoche, Kershaw, Broxton, Hu and another decent prospect (not familiar with the LAD minor leagues...possibly Either)...

I think the Twins and Dodgers make excellent partners. Kemp, Broxton, Elbert, Abreu is about right in his market.
