Manny traded to Dodgers!!

The Red Sox traded embattled slugger Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers late Thursday afternoon, SI.com has learned.


Jason Bay is headed to Boston as part of the deal, SI.com has learned. The Pirates will get four minor leaguers in the three-way trade.

The Red Sox went back-and-forth with the Marlins and Dodgers as the 4 p.m. ET deadline approached. Ramirez said earlier today, as first reported by SI.com, that he would accept a trade to any team.

The announcement will be made in conjunction with a World Baseball Classic announcement at Dodger Stadium shortly.

Manny Ramirez's stormy relationship with the Boston Red Sox appears to be over.

A baseball source has confirmed Ramirez has been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, ESPN.com has learned.

Jason Bay is going to Boston as part of the deal, Jayson Stark reported. And the Pittsburgh Pirates get four minor leaguers as part of the three-way deal.

Andy LaRoche, Bryan Morris, Brandon Moss and Craig Hansen will go to Pittsburgh, ESPN.com has learned.

The Dodgers only gave up third baseman Andy LaRoche and right-handed pitcher Bryan Morris . . . not bad! The Red Sox are also paying the $7 million remaining on Ramirez's $20 million salary for this year. The two $20 million club options for each of the next two seasons were dropped, which will allow Ramirez to become a free agent this winter . . . I think the Dodgers will resign him for cheaper but not cheap price.

I just saw this news. I couldn't believe he actually got traded, then I couldn't believe the Dodgers were the team, and I really couldn't believe it was for these two minor leaguers. We're going to have some expensive 4th and 5th outfielders in Pierre and Jones.

Andruw Jones will not get significantly better. He has lost his bat speed and hand/eye. That's why his decline has been so rapid. It has nothing to do with seeing better pitches - he's getting challenged right down the pipe and can't hit. Unfortunately, everyone now realizes it and there is no market for him. He's a $36 million pinch-hitter until his contract ends.

Move Pierre while they can - NYY need a LF bad, and go with the new OF of Manny, Kemp, Ethier.
Pierre will probably clear waivers too because of his salary.

WOW - I cannot believe the details of this trade:

The Dodgers pay NOTHING to Manny this year, give up a 3B who is not in their plans anymore with the addition of Blake and the emergence of DeWitt, and a pitcher who has not progressed as planned in A ball.

That's it.

Meanwhile, Boston gives up the best player in the deal, PAYS Manny for the rest of the year, gives up a valuable reliever with ML upside, and a 5th outfielder for them who will probably be a starter in Pitt. Bay is solid, but wow.

I was at the game on Saturday and let me say WOW! Just WOW! UNBELIEVABLE!!! The atmosphere was just beyond ridiculous and I have been to my fair share of Dodger games over the years but none of them comes close to Saturday. Never have I seen one player inject so much life to the team + the fans, every single soul in that stadium was standing and cheering everytime we saw Manny. Even when the guy struck out the entire stadium went nuts for him, I mean the guy could do no wrong.
I feel very blessed to witness his first HR as a Dodger because that moment was just priceless.

At the risk of being redundant: Welcome to LA Manny and I hope you are here to stay!
