don't get excited about wallace. you're in for a disappointment. not that i think gooden or hughes are going to be any good with us either -- but i'm so glad ben is gone, he's past his prime. his defensive skills don't even come close to making up for his downy offensive game. all he was doing was stealing minutes from our youngins. on the other hand, I'm really upset we got rid of Joe Smith. all of the joe smith praise is well deserved, the dude can ball. despite my negativity, i believe the cavs are a better team after this trade. on the other hand, i don't think you have a chance of a ring this year. the west is just too damn good.

This is exactly what annoys me about just about any Bulls fan that has commented on this. I don't think there is a single person that ever been excited about Wallace. I thought that the Bulls were stupid for giving him as much money as they did and was against us getting him up until the trade. However he's by no means the most important player in this trade to the Cavs. Heck he's worth it if he delivers one hard foul to a player that tries to hurt LeBron. It's not about Wallace. Sure he has the biggest contract but the other players are going to be way more important to the Cavs than him. If he can bring 20 minutes of hustle and rebounding that's a good trade for us.

Yeah, I think most Cavs fans are more excited about the other three guys being brought in than anything else. Just about any Cavs fan I know is very reserved when it comes to acquiring Wallace, the evidence that he had a steep decline starting 2 years ago when he did extremely poorly against us (when we lost in 7) and the rest of the teams they faced in the playoffs is there. It would be nice if he got a little bit of his old stuff back, but no one is counting on that at all. Also i gotta agree with san2c, the west is ridiculously better than the east this year, so I am not expecting anything, but fingers are crossed.

Agree!
No reasonable Bulls fan should think that the Cavs really wanted Wallace. They were more interested in the other 3 & in dumping at least 2 players who they didnt want around anymore on their team.
No Cavs fans should think that Bulls really wanted Gooden & Hughes. The Bulls wanted to rid themselves of Wallace & his contract - and the players offered by the Cavs fit the financial goals of Bulls management. I regret losing Joe Smith, but it is a small price to pay in exchange for correcting the Wallace blunder.
Wallace will do better on the Cavs but will never be the player he was on Detroit anymore. The Bulls learned that to their horror. The Cavs have no such delusions.
It is a good trade for all 3 teams & I am very happy with it - even if the Cavs win all 4 games against us this season

Yeah, I think all teams were able to do what they wanted with the trade. Wallace had probably the worst contract in the NBA, but Larry had the 2nd worst, and since Ben's decreases while Larry's increases it isn't going to effect the Cavs a ton. Plus the other guys expire within 1-2 years so if it doesn't work out, oh well, we weren't in much of a better position beforehand, not like we were better off before the trade. Ferry took a chance and made a good trade for the Cavs, if it works out then great, if it doesn't we won't be screwed by it.

I was O.K. with the trade when it was only rumored, but I was really good with it when West was added to it. I don't expect Wallace to be the one he was in Detroit, but I believe that he will still do a solid job at PF and backing up at Center. Wallace role will be more suited to his skills with the CAVs just like Hughes and Gooden will fit in better with the Bulls who will now be more up-tempo.
Brian Windhorst of the ABJ had a good piece in todays edition summing up the CAVs trade:

Ferry did what was needed for Cavs
Cavs now have ammo to be players in deals
For some unknown reason, several respected national experts said this trade hampered the Cavs' ability to be flexible in the future. Nothing could be further from the truth, which is a major reason they were comfortable taking the risk of moving out six players with just 28 games left.
If you add in Damon Jones and Eric Snow, the Cavs will still have about $30 million in expiring contracts next season. It will allow them to evaluate their new team and have options if things don't work out. They also will have the ammo to be players in deals for teams looking to rebuild. And there are always teams looking to rebuild.
