I'm all for getting Ira back on the team. Cavs could use his defense against certain teams in the playoffs. No one has picked him up yet right? Since it's been a week or so since he was waived by Seattle. We still have another 2+ weeks to wait before being allowed to sign him?

It's 30 days from the date of trade... Which was what the 12th? So that means about 3 more days and we would be allowed again..... By my calculations at least.

I believe the trade happened in the 20's of February, but I can't remember exactly.

It happened on the trade deadline, which was the 21st. So, we can sign him on the 22nd.

Brent Barry and Ira Newble, meanwhile, are expected to return later this month to San Antonio and Cleveland, respectively, after sitting out the league-mandated 30 days before re-signing with the teams that traded them. Seattle waived both players after acquiring Barry in a deal with San Antonio for Kurt Thomas and taking Newble in the three-team, 11-player swap with Chicago and Cleveland that sent Wally Szczerbiak, among others, to the Cavs.

Newble to sign with the Lakers

Post#29 » by LeQuitterNotMVP » Fri Mar 21, 2008 7:48 pm

...as per the wiretap.

I'm surprised. If he was going to sign with the Lakers, why'd he wait so long? I thought he would want to resign with us, he was eligible starting Tuesday. Not a big loss on the court, but he was a good guy off of the court as well.

Why did he wait so long? Well there are these things known as rules. Also LA has been gone on a 4 game road trip.

He's a good guy and while it came down to whether he would sign with LA or Cleveland I'm not surprised he'd pick the Lakers.

From what I heard he wanted to sign with the Cavs (which is why it took so long) but there was a contract dispute and so he chose the Lakers.

Pros: He's a hard worker, can be an effective defensive player (especially if he learns the system well), and he's not a head case at all.

Cons: He's not a good scorer, and is overall not that talented on the offensive end.

Although he's not all that talented, his good work ethic makes up for it. Definitely a very nice 11th-12th type man, and can fill in well when a player with more minutes gets injured.

Right now it is just a respect thing to call Kobe the greatest sg in the league. I wouldnt be surprised if in two season lebron takes the title from kobe.

I think he will help us, we need the defensive aspect, I think we are good on the offensive scoring.
