Would you trade expiring contracts to Knicks for pick #6?

The one thing that Curry can do that no existing Cavalier can do is score in the post. He'd have a field day with LeBron. That being said, man I hate him because he really would be pretty good if he had any heart at all (that is not a health comment)

The trade made by the thread starter means the Cavs have ~$84M in salary for 2008-09, fielding a team of:

5 Z / Varejao / Jerome James
4 Randolph / Joe Smith
3 LeBron / Richardson / Jeffries
2 Wally
1 #6 Pick

Who knows if they could even resign Delonte West. $84M is almost $100M in player salaries figuring the luxury tax at $70M.

And don't get me started on 2009-10. $94M in committed salary for this:

5 Z / Jerome James
4 Randolph / Varejao
3 LeBron / Richardson / Jeffries
2 Wally
1 #6 Pick

$94M means $115M in player salaries. That means no resigning Delonte. No using the MLE. No one else over the league minimum, leaving you something like:

5 Z / Jerome James / Ha Sueng-Jin
4 Randolph / Varejao / Tractor Traylor
3 LeBron / Richardson / Jeffries
2 Wally / Coby Karl / Mike Gandy
1 #6 Pick / Dan Dickau

That is what you want the 2009-10 Cavaliers to look like? 1 decent bench player in the whole bunch. Wally will barely be able to walk, much less defend an NBA SG. But he'll have to play 40 minutes a game considering Coby Karl is his backup.

Come on people. No wonder America is in debt up to its eyeballs. Nothing is free. Money does matter. This trade makes less sense than clowns at a funeral.

Please take money into account not just for 08-09, but for 09-10 and beyond for all future Knicks deals. And keep salaries lower than $75M. Otherwise the Cavs have no flexibility.

One way I would consider it is make it two seperate deals,Knicks send max cash in both and either Lee or Chandler or like someone said earlier put in Crawford instead.

After that I would trade portland for the #13,#33, and either Webster, Outlaw, or Frye. Then we can get Westbrook,Arthur,or Batum. We could even try and fascilitate a threeway with Memphis so Portland can try and get Conley and we still get the #13 while getting Mike Miller or Darko.

I know that people don't want to do ANY trades with the Knicks (due to LeBron rumors & crazy contracts), BUT....

Eddy Curry is only 25 years old. As a back-up to Zydrunas, he'd be Awesome...and would extend Z's playing Career. He has 3 years left on his contract, and is more valuable than Varejao...especially with the new flopping rule that will be installed this coming year.

Jamal Crawford is a true SG, with size, that can create his own shot and plays passable defense - which would get better under MB. He has 4 years left on his contract, and he just turned 28, so he is in his prime.

We could send Varejao, Damon Jones and Snow plus 2009 1st round pick & 2011 2nd round pick plus cash for Crawford, Curry & 2008 #6 pick.

We draft a shooting guard or Point guard (best available) with #6 and the best big-man available with the #19 pick.

We re-sign Delonte & Gibson

After this is all finished, we would still have Wally available for a possible trade at the deadline, or before....plus our trade-exception.

New York cutsHUGE payroll, and gets a free look at Varejao (Who likes NY). Snow will retire, and Damon is in final year. NY is planning for future, so the two future picks, plus payroll cuts help them accomplish their goal. In addition, NY keeps all their young studs.

The Cavaliers meanwhile are looking to establish themselves as a perennial power, and have little time to do it, so this trade looks GREAT for them!

Here is what the Cavs could look like in this scenario:

PG: West/Gibson
SG: Crawford/#6 Gordon?/Sasha
SF: LeBron/Wally/Sasha
PF: Wallace/Smith/#19?
C : Zydrunas/Curry/#19?

That looks pretty damn formidable to me.... and if either of our picks have a break-out rookie year, then we'll be that much better. In-addition, we still would have the option of trading Sasha,Wally or Smith at the deadline, or before.

One scenario that is a possibility is: Wally + Gibson for Jason Kidd.

I know that a lot of people would be opposed to Kidd... especially with Gibson included.... but, we'd get him cheap....LeBron loves him, and in-case nobody has noticed....Delonte plays A LOT like a young Kidd... imagine if we had Kidd starting, with Delonte backing him up...and learning from him?

And here's the kicker.... This is a doable deal(s)...for ALL parties!

So, it is at-least possible.

To OUTLAW:

You asked if we'd rather have Brand and Miller, than Curry & Crawford.... I think everyone answered that for you. Now here is a question for you (and others too) :

Would you rather have Curry + Crawford + #6 pick

OR

Michael Redd???

(Curry + Crawford = 3million more per year)

I think this is a no-brainer, but what does everyone else think?

I don't believe I've ever submitted the question of Brand/Miller or Curry Crawford, but that would be a no brainer to me.

I don't hate Curry as much as alot of people do (I think that's mainly due to how he minimizes his actual talent). I am not a Crawford fan however (although he does probably have the best games against the Cavs of any player in the NBA year in and year out)

Curry sucks..horrible rebounder, horrible post defender, horrible passer out of the post...lazy attitude

I'm just not a fan of his game at all, even moreso than Zach Randolph. I don't see what you guys like about him. He's 25 but has had years to work on the above issues.

He doesn't have the motor of a guy like Chandler who was raw and just needed time to develop, he is just a lazy ass.

Wow, heath... You basically raped the Knicks in the deal. No way they give up Crawford, let alone OJ Mayo that easily...

I'd take OJ Mayo, pretty much over anybody that we could realistically trade for: Michael Redd, Corey Maggette, Josh Howard, Mike Miller; no questions asked....

I think something like this would be fair:

Anderson Varejao
Wally Szcerbiak
#19 pick

for

Eddy Curry
Quentin Richardson
#6 pick

Then you have a lineup like:

Delonte West / Boobie Gibson / Damon Jones
OJ Mayo / Quentin Richardson
LeBron James / FA???
Ben Wallace / Joe Smith
Zydrunas Ilgauskas / Eddy Curry

Heck yeah!

WOW Smooth..I think I would pull the trigger on this one too!
But then again, the Rule is ..."NO KNICKS"...Right?
