Any source?
Apparently we did want a forward from Kansas. Just not Arthur. WTF.

Yep, we have Darnell Jackson (Miami's 2nd round pick in the 50's) for a 2009 second rounder (Cavs or Bulls, whichever is lower).
Someone said we also traded for Sasha Kaun from Seattle. Not positive if it's true yet, or what we traded for.

Re: Darnell Jackson to Cleveland....
They also mentioned this on WTAM tonight. Interesting that both went to school for 4 years and both played at Kansas. Jackson is more of a brusining rebounding type while Kaun can score some on high percentage down low. I believe Kaun has a contract in Europe though, so Im not sure how much we will see of him. Looks like we at least added another couple young bigs to round out the rotation or two use as trade pieces.

Re: Darnell Jackson to Cleveland....
No link for this, sorry....
We went from not having enough bigs to possibly having too many at this point. Looks like the team is getting ready for AV to be on his way out to me. Kaun will be in Europe so he wont factor into the roster for a few years, but that still leaves us with 8 guys besides him. D Jones and Allred are probably on their ways out so that knocks it down to 6. Looks like Hickson could be our 4th big from day one assuming AV does get traded and nothing else happens between now and then.

Dw. Jones

Jackson
Sasha Kaun signed a 3-year contract with CSKA Moscow, as released on their their official website this weekend. Kaun may end up being the highest paid player on the Kansas Jayhawk championship team, as his salary will be similar to that of a late lottery pick next season. He has not shut the door on playing in the NBA down the road, as he has a comfortable buyout after the second year of his contract, which may even make him more attractive to a team drafting in the late second round.

We can also add Wayne Simien and Tractor Traylor to the list, correct? At least they'll be playing four our summer team. Hopefully one of Simien, Traylor (lol), or Darnell Jackson will work out as a nice 5th big (assuming Hickson is our 4th big with Andy or Smith traded). I'm also assuming Allred is strictly D-League type player, and Dwayne won't resign.

I really don't see the point in stockpiling mediocre big men. Neither of these guys has much of a chance to do anything more than fill out a summer league roster. Jackson is undersized and slow with little athletic ability and Kaun is really just an energy guy.

I guess I'll be better with the Hickson pick if we get Redd somehow for some junk. I don't know what to think anymore.

Kaun is going to play in Russia next season, he'll get the same money as a lottery pick

To have D-League guys and fill out a possible 5th big role? According to Hollinger, Darnell Jackson is likely to be a "second round steal" and he ranked him at 39th in the draft. I'm sure he can end up being a future bench/role player big in the league.

Re: Darnell Jackson to Cleveland....
I wasn't happy with the Hickson pick but I like the Darnell Jackson move. He is a bruiser, not a great vertical athlete but can bang and move - at least on offense. His defense was pretty weak at Kansas.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Jackson make the 15 man roster. He is the kind of player that will do well as a spot minute big man in the NBA, kind of a Alan Henderson type role.
Good pickup by Ferry.

Re: Darnell Jackson to Cleveland....
I agree, Jackson's job is to rebound, rebound, and then more rebound. He is a hustle guy that leaves everything on the court. He has a decent mid-range jumper and is a garbage man around the basket. He isn't an overly explosive type of player, but he will do the little things to win. He fits his role very well. Teams always need the type of big man that will take up space and go for every rebound in sight, that is what Darnell Jackson will bring to the table. Not only that, but he is a WINNER as well.

Re: Darnell Jackson to Cleveland....
I like the idea of bringing on a second round big man with a similar game to Hickson.
Cavs appear to be targeting the role of an wide bodied big man who can rebound and score, just like they were targeting a small guard with outside shooting, defense and some PG skills two years ago. They also got a pair or rookies for a single roster spot, just like they did two years ago.
Even though there is only one spot on the team, getting a pair of rookies together on the buddy system is a good idea because:
1) Creates some competition to encourage development so that the rookie doesn't get all fat and Dioppy.
2) The development coaches can focus their efforts on the front court
3) Practicing against an improving rookie at the same point of development could be a lot more beneficial than practicing against disinterested vets that have already worked the fundamentals for years.
4) Odds are better that at least one player will work out, so it is lower risk.
