We all know we need YOUNG feet in the low post who can defend and score. I looked at our roster and the only PF that can score on it is Joe Smith, who is nothing more than a backup worth 20mpg. Problem is, if we get a starting PF without trading Wallace, who starts? So i came up with TWO trades that get rid of Wallace, net us a solid starting PF and SG to go with LeBron.
Trade 1:
Cavaliers trade Damon Jones and Joe Smith with their 2010 Second for Boris Diaw.
Trade 2:
Cavaliers trade Ben Wallace and 2009 First for Jamaal Crawford and Jarred Jefferies.
Why for trade 1:
We give up two decent pieces and a useless 45-50th pick for a solid PF. This guy can score, pass, shoot, and most of all defend. Agreed, he doesn't have the best contract and is overpayed about 2mil a year, but if we make him our starting PF alongside LeBron at SF and Z at C, he could flouris. If they doubleteam Z, this guy can hit the midrange J. If hes posting up and gets double teamed, he can pass out with his great court vision. He can also play and gaurd multiple positions, including SF, PF and if needed C. Very versitile player who could flourish for us.
Why for trade 2:
We get the prolific 2nd scorer to help out LeBron on offense. This guy is clutch and would take pressure off LeBron. He can also shoot the 3 very well and although undersized at the 2 can handle the ball and play some point when needed (last couple minutes when game is on line, we could have a lineup of Crawford/Gibson/LeBron/Diaw/Z).
If these trades were made, even though we clear capspace for the nicks "2010" plan, guess what, we get help for LeBron so he doesn't leave!
West/Gibson
Crawford/Sasha
LeBron/Jefferies
Diaw/Hickson
Z/Varejao
everyone except Z and Lebron and Sasha would be signed past 2010, meaning we only need to retain LeBron and get a backup or starting C if Varejao doesnt get signed next offseason. Anyone like this?
We only loose 2 picks, get rid of wallace, and get a much better chance to get to the finals even this year with the aging celtics and pistons. Only problem for us may be the Magic..

Re: phx-cle idea
Take out the picks in both trades and it's a deal.
I love Joe Smith but I think Diaw is a better basketball player and a real unique one.
The 2nd trade would be alright.
There would have to be some stipulations to these trades however...
A). The Cavs are able to find a good, backup center
B). The Cavs can package Wally and whatever they have left for a #2 option
Maybe something like Wally + Sasha + AV for Artest, Moore and Thomas.
West/Gibson
Artest/Crawford
James/Jeffries
Thomas/Diaw/Hickson
Ilgauskas/Moore
Thomas would be a weakspot but I think he could hold his own..
But that looks like a real solid roster. All we'd have to do is sign a veteran real cheap at the big man, and small forward and we'd be set.
West / Gibson
Artest / Crawford
James / Jeffries / Gordan Giricek
Thomas / Diaw / Hickson
Ilgauskas / Moore / Francisco Elson
Yeah baby!
But like I said, only under those two conditions.

No way. Diaw would be lose in a half-court offense and he struggles on defense. Plus he has a pretty hefty contract. No thanks on him.
I also don't see a reason to do the 2nd trade either.
We pretty much add on a bunch of average role players that have big contracts. We become VERY similar to the New York Knicks of last year.

Re: phx-cle idea
I really didn't think that a Bois Diaw trade was something I would like due to the 2010 free agency and being over paid but I think we may be able to work something out because I think he can earn his contract if he starts. I think hybrid/versatile players are suited best around Lebron. But I dont think Diaw's value is as high as stated above. Plus not a lot of teams would consider him due to the length of his contract.
We do a :
Damon Jones
Joe Smith
for
Bois Diaw
DJ Strawberry
I think we get a steal in DJ and his defense and ability to run the ball(benefit when on the bench with Gibson. Plus he can play 3 positions(PG-SG-SF) like Bois(SF-PF-C) but Phoenix is trying to get him off the books while getting some production and Smith and Jones I can see fitting in Phoenix.
For the Crawford deal, No especially not with Jeffries.
As far as the Artest trade, I'm for it. Something along the lines of Artest + Thomas or SAR for AV+ expirings + 2nd rd pick or cash. But I would first like to see what happens with JR Smith and have Artest as a 2nd option if we cant sign or deal for Smith.

Other than the first reply, i think you guys undervalue Diaw. He will be solid along with LeBron. No way suns do it adding DJ though, maybe without the second, actually they would probably 90% do it without the second. The second deal dumps BEN "USELESS" WALLACE. How could you say no? Grabs us the second scoring option too. I agree though, it would mean we have to get rid of Sczerbiak and Sasha for a starting calibre 2. The artest deal is great for us, but no way SAC does it with the glut of gaurds they already posses. Im still wondering why Wally "CHUCKER" Sczerbiak gets payed more than Rip Hamilton, this guy BLOWWWWWWS. In dumping him id like a trade like this:
Wally + Sasha + AV + Future First for Vince Carter + KVH's contract and Josh Boone.
Gets us the backup C we need along with a 2010 expiring and exactly what we need from the 2. Vince is declined quite a bit but hes still one of the top 10 players in the league, and surely the top 3 shooting gaurds. he was one of 3 players to avg 20-5-5 last season as far as i know. With those 3 trades, we are left at :
West/Gibson/Crawford
Carter/Crawford/Gibson
LeBron/Jefferies/Diaw
Diaw/Hickson/Boone
Z/Boone
This suddenly makes us YOUNG from old, gets us some feet that can still move and gives us expierence at the same time. anyway we can contact DF

Umm... Vince's deal is terrible. It goes through 11/12 and he gets 18 million that year...
While I agree his talent would be nice this year, he would severely hamstring this organization for years to come... I'd rather get Artest.

I could add 34 more players that are better too!!!
Carmelo Anthony
Elton Brand
Ron Artest
Kevin Martin
Carlos Boozer
Deron Williams
Joe Johnson
Emeka Okafor
Luol Deng
Dirk Nowitzki
Allen Iverson
Chauncey Billups
Richard Hamilton
Monta Ellis
Tracy McGrady
Baron Davis
Pau Gasol
Dwyane Wade (top-10)
Michael Redd
Al Jefferson
David West
Kevin Durant
Rashard Lewis
Andre Iguodala
LaMarcus Aldridge
Greg Oden
Brandon Roy
Manu Ginobili
Tony Parker
Chris Bosh (arguably top-10)
Jose Calderon
Gilbert Arenas
Caron Butler
Antawn Jamison
This list doesn't even include players that are comparable, and have an argument as to being better than Vince, such as:
Richard Jefferson
Tayshawn Prince
Rasheed Wallace
Shaq
Andrei Kirilenko
Rashard Lewis
Hedo Turkoglu
Corey Maggette
Jermaine Oneal
Mike Miller
Nor does it take into account many of the rookies from last season that haven't reached their potential, but will be better. Nor does it take into account ANY of this year's rookies, which will have a minimum of 2 players (Beasley & Mayo) who will be better.
Vince is not anywhere worth the price-tag that is applied to him. Yeah, he'd be a great acquisition for the Cavaliers - but only at a good price, such as an expiring contract. Certainly not a 1st-round pick!
There are probably 50 players that I'd consider a better acquisition or as-good an acquisition as Vince Carter.... and that doesn't include any of the players from this year's draft.
Vince Carter, top-10? I don't think so!

Cavaliers trade Ben Wallace and 2009 First for Jamaal Crawford and Jarred Jefferies.
That trade is laughable! I'd rather keep Big Ben. I wouldn't do this trade even if I was drunk...
...I would NEVER take-on Jared Jeffries unless we got a "KILLER" deal!!!!
I'd need "at-least" a future #1 pick just to consider taking him. The guy is one of the worst players in the entire league!
How about this deal:
NY sends:
Jamal Crawford
David Lee
Jared Jeffries
2009 1st-round pick
Cleveland sends:
Wally Szczerbiak
Anderson Varejao
